I have no problem with nudity or sex scenes in a movie. But is there actually any need to have nudity and sex scene in movies ?

Yes, it's better than watching scenes of people brushing their teeth.

I think the main function of nudity and prolonged sex scenes in movies is to make the viewing experience as awkward as possible when watching with parents.

Depends on the film. A Disney family movie, no of course not. But something else like a drama or romance (okay one of those that's actually for adults and not the tween 'Twilight' crowd) it'd not surprise me.

Yes. How else would I get to see Eva Green's cans?

I mean when the context of a scene calls for it as an essential component.

Of course there is, especially if it's a love story or a movie about sex. Nudity comes with that territory.
There are also movies that use nudity symbolically or to add to the emotional impact of a scene. Remember that not all nudity is used in a sexual way in movies.

Would Wolf of Wall Street work without the sex and nudity?

Would Wolf of Wall Street work without the sex and nudity? It wouldn't work as well, that's for sure.

Would Wolf of Wall Street work without the sex and nudity? Yes, it would but not as well. The entire movie is about excess. Maybe it didn't need to show orgy after orgy but showing nothing wouldn't make sense.

I think, if the movie has something to do with sex -- not porn but something like The Good Girl or One Hour Photo, then nudity/sex scenes are imperative.
I don't understand movies that are about something else and then here is a sex scene or a guy's ass.
There was no reason to show Renee Russo's boobies in The Thomas Crown affair when she was on that beach if only to remind us that they were in the Caribbean or somewhere. even so, it was quite overcast in that scene so how much sun was she getting? I would have gotten a chill even with a top on!

Films are the visions of the screenwriters and the the directors, and if they feel nudity is necessary (or they just like nudity) that is how they make the film.
They have to answer to the producers, and if the producer doesn't want nudity, or feels it doesn't fit, he takes it up the screenwriter and the director.
Then there are all kinds of discussions (unless the director has in his contract that he has final cut approval) until something is worked out.

I have no problem with nudity or sex scenes in a movie. But is there actually any need to have nudity and sex scene in movies ? Is there really any need to have color in movies? Is there really any need to have music in movies? Is there really any need to have sound in movies? Do we really need movies? What's wrong with reading a book? Or just telling stories beside the fire?
