Watched this one last night. With the exception of copious on-set footage, the sole interviewee is Carrey. With his scraggly beard, he looks centuries away from the funny man of the late 90s. He is often insightful and pretty open about going to the extremes to play Andy Kaufman/Tony Clifton. At what point is it method acting and not just creepy? Jim often refers himself as Andy when discussing the making of the movie and the behind-the-scenes footage is pretty revealing. Look at a scene where Jim, in Andy mode while in the make-up trailer, is comforted by the actor playing Andy's father). The footage with Jerry Lawler is gold. Carrey (getting into the mind of Kaufman) pushes and taunts Lawler to the point where it gets violent. However, in real life, Kaufman and Lawler were both in on the gag culminating in the legendary slap on the David Letterman show. This is something Carrey doesn't quite believe at the time. Lawler gets his revenge on Carrey by slapping the shit of out him filming the Letterman incident.
