It's well cast (Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe, Diane Lane, etc..), not boring like Superman Returns, and a pretty decent score from Hans Zimmer.

In regards to Superman Returns, it reminds me of that quote from The Lost World:
"Don't worry. I'm not making the same mistakes again." "No, you're making all new ones."
Because Returns was dull and sanitized, they went so far in the other direction it became numbing. And yeah, it's well cast, but most of these actors aren't given much to do.

It's my #1 super hero movie
6-6.5/10 ; which makes it within my Top 248 movies.
p.s. i have seen it twice so far on Oct 16th 2013 and July 11th 2016. my 2nd viewing it went up (i.e. 6/10 to a 6-6.5/10) and moved it into my #1 super hero movie spot.

I liked it. Personally I think Snyder should just focus on doing a Man of Steel sequel. Let someone else handle Justice League 2.

I say this as someone who never cared for the comics of SUPERMAN, liking only the first Christopher Reeve movie & the first couple seasons of the 90s TV show with Dean Cain, and who grew up on WW comics while loving all things BATMAN--- MAN OF STEEL turned me into a huge Superman/Clark Kent nerd. Honestly, I generally like my heroes dark and conflicted, but MAN OF STEEL was one of the first ones to really make me break the mold and get into liking a shiny, nice-guy superhero [CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER did the same with Steve Rogers/Cap- as in the comics, I couldn't stand the character and was more of an Iron Man/Hulk/Warbird fan]. I really liked how they changed up the "Introducing Our Hero" stuff that has to be done in first-in-a-series movies. We didn't just get 10-25 minutes of Clark's backstory, then BAM he's a superhero flying around the city, saving people. They allowed him to have natural flashes of memory to fill in the gaps as he grows into the role. A bus driving by makes him think of the first time he nearly exposed his powers after a bus accident, a memory of his dad coming up to check on him after he was bullied, etc., and letting him go home for a bit so we could hear Martha K. talk about when they got him and give us the set-up for the breathing thing. It really is just a beautiful movie. I don't think you would have to be into Superhero type movies, to enjoy MAN OF STEEL. It isn't perfect, though it is a good movie that isn't all flash and no depth. Not to mention, I'd watch a movie with Diane Lane, R. Crowe, Kevin C., and Laurence F. any day.

I liked it. Particularly the female Kryptonian. She had the best presence of all the characters, imo.

I don't think Superman will ever be done right. Superman getting the tobacco/tar laced Kryptonite was about the best that was ever done.

It's the best Superman movie ever made (so far).
And I say this as a geezer pushing 60, who grew up with it all.
Finally -- the property was treated as a serious science fiction/action-drama, not cornball campy bullshit.

It is better than 'Superman Returns' but it wasn't on the same level as 'Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.' Even though Warner Bros wouldn't let the writers use a lot of Superman's villains which is why they had to make up new villains like Tempus and a Zod knockoff called Lord Nor I still think Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher were the best Clark Kent and Lois Lane and none of the other movies or TV shows were as good.

Agreed. Except for the soundtrack I deem it on par with the classic and better than the sequels.

The ending is unforgivable.
The movie leading up to the ending was pretty decent. Snyder knows his way around an action scene and the effects are better than anything we've seen after it in the DC universe.
However, he never could figure out why audiences wouldn't necessarily see eye to eye on what motivates his characters. Rarely if ever do they make sense.
I would add that Batman vs. Superman retroactively made it a worse movie too since it reaffirmed why the ending was horrible.

I liked it but there are too many issues in the third act to be the film Superman fans have been waiting.
Clark and Lois kissing against the backdrop of a destroyed Metropolis is jarring.
