No future contests for a short while -- the Quizmaster will be undergoing long-delayed (due to cowardice) oral surgery tomorrow. Nothing that serious -- operating dentist Dr. Szell assures me that (in his own words): "It iz zafe." But in the meantime -- _____________________________________________________________________________________________

Best of luck, Matt. May it be a pain free experience. Rest those chompers and get back to us soon. In the meantime, I'll try to fill in for you. Working on something now. Hope they find it challenging. I'll try it out here first. Fill in the blank: The ____ of Oz. Do you think I show promise? p.s. I checked out your dentist's credentials. He looks top-notch.

Learn a lesson from Garth Games, Jervis -- don't make the contest impossible. Nobody is going to get that one -- it's TOO obscure!
My dentist is 'top-notch'?? But the operation will be on the lower teeth. Is he 'bottom-notch' too?

Hmmm. The jury's still out on the bottom-notch man. We'll form a nice little prayer circle for you.

For those not familiar with your "Is it safe" comment, I offer you this you tube video www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzw1_2b-I7A These days, oral surgery is really great and not as bad as previously thought. Just a couple of weeks ago, our dentist sent my wife to an oral surgeon to have some work done. Just the fact that the dentist sent us to an "oral surgeon" caused me to worry, but--after all that worry--it went very smoothly and quickly, and without any pain. Here is something interesting that we learned: After he had pulled a couple of her teeth, he removed the gold fillings from the removed teeth. When we left the office, he gave me an envelope and told me to mail it and I would get some money back within a week or two. Sure enough, we did get a small check back in the mail---the money was in exchange for the gold from my wife's removed teeth. Don't worry--Take care..AND when you feel like it, I am sure we will all be here to play the next GG. I do love those games!!! The best moment is always discovering a match--even if it is only a halfer. While you are away, I will look into games on the Games Board...got to feed that discovery addiction, you know [smile]

Good luck and hope it goes fast! I did something similar a few years ago and the old saying "This too shall pass" was correct.
I tried your "work-in-progress"-quiz jervis, and I'm stumped so far about the missing word. But I'll keep trying and I'm reasonably sure I can get it in the end. Can you give a hint? First letter? Sounds like...?

Thanks a bunch for providing that link, Kijii. Now I have something to look forward to. I just hope Szell doesn't run out of his supply of Oil of Cloves.

Thanks for playing, shield. Hint: It rhymes with one of these organs: p.s. Matt, Costco sells oil of cloves for just $14.99 a barrel.

They give you money back for gold fillings, Kijii?? Oh great -- NOW you tell me! I had the chance to get those, but opted instead for the cheaper kind. Do you know if they pay out for zinc as well??

A few more dentists in movies, Linda:
Hitchcock's first MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH in 1934 Alan Arkin in THE IN-LAWS Joe Mantegna in COMPROMISING POSITIONS Walter Matthau in CACTUS FLOWER Hygenist Janet Leigh works on her boss in WIVES AND LOVERS Bob Hope is correspondence school dentist 'Painless Potter' in THE PALEFACE
The most expert of them all -- Edgar Buchanan fixing William Holden's cavity in 1941's TEXAS. Before turning to acting, Edgar did actually practice dentisty.
We never see him on the job, but in GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL Burt Lancaster's 'Wyatt' says that Kirk Douglas' 'Holliday' once extracted an Earp tooth.
