Every minute spent listening to Phil Collins is one that could have been better spent listening to not-Phil-Collins.

Why the hate for Phil? The dude put out some really good material.

Why the hate for Phil? The dude put out some really good material. Maybe he isn't the best example for my comment. In the Air Tonight and a couple of other tracks are good, but the majority of his solo stuff is soulless.

I agree that his past few releases have been weak, but that doesn't discount the good stuff, of which there is more than just a couple of tracks. IMO, of course.

And to be honest, I think he was fine in Genesis, even though they sold out somewhat. Not sure how much of an input he had on the songwriting.

I feel the same way about The Eagles.

There's a lot of moments in life, and Phil Collins has earned his moments for listening. He knew how to write a big, bold and good pop song, he was ambitious, and had great production value.

Every minute spent listening to Phil Collins is one that could have been better spent listening to not-Phil-Collins. Which just underscores the "in the eye of the beholder" subjectivity of "soulful/soulless." I find Collins' music to be extremely soulful.
