Just watching the episode where Blanche realizes her husband cheated and has another son. I don't think they ever mentioned this character again. Also had Sophia and Dorothy as sunny and Cher. Too cute 😂

A lot of the things Blanche did on the show honked me off, one is how she would deliberately get her own granddaughter's name wrong, "Oreo". Wish sometime on the show somebody would've referred to her as "Belch Deveraux", it would've been hilarious to see her hit the ceiling.

Blanche could be very petty and childish, but she had her moments. I think out of the 4, she was the best storyteller. And I love her accent. I found the -clack clack clack- of her shoes most annoying though.

I know Fiddler on the Ropes is nobody's favorite, but I can't believe how many years it took me to finally figure out Sophia's line about Pepe spending the rest of his career getting arrested on TV cop shows. I thought she meant he'd be a washed up hasbeen who would get busted on an episode of COPS.

How many times was $10,000 mentioned on this show? Anybody keep count?
$10,000 for the new roof they couldn't afford.
$10,000 for the lottery ticket they had.
$10,000 for the security system they wouldn't buy.
$10,000 first prize in the song writing contest
wasn't that also what they owed to bring the house up to code in That's For me to Know?

Today I was thinking about End of the Curse when they thought Blanche was pregnant and Rose and Dorothy were so excited about helping to raise the baby. They were a little less enthusiastic when they thought Rose would be inheriting her uncle's baby. Either way, what do you think it would've been like if the show HAD involved them actually raising a child, more than the two weeks they had Blanche's grandson David?

There is an episode that many people on the old format disliked, but it's one of my favorites. It's called "Not Another Monday", and it was about Sophia's friend Martha planning to commit suicide. Of course, Sophia managed to talk her out of it.
I like it because in some ways, I can identify with Martha. I'm 70, and I have several health problems, especially depression and loss of physical stamina. Sometimes, I feel that if I had Martha's barbiturates, I'd think about offing myself, too.
The only thing that bothers me is that Sophia didn't recommend that Martha sell her house (from the look of her parlor, she should get a good price for it), and move into a senior community. Sure, Sophia hated Shady Pines, but it might be just what Martha needed. At least she'd be with people like her.

There's another reason I like it; Martha's presence early in the episode saved Sophia from a tongue-lashing from Dorothy for actually having the temerity of going to a funeral without telling her!

Dorothy might have been funny but she had a mean streak.

I wish The Golden Girls could actually get its own sub board, there's so much to talk about. Something I was going to bring up before the boards closed on IMDb was that famous scene, "CONDOMS, ROSE! CONDOMS CONDOMS CONDOMS!" my opinion, as memorable as it became, that's not bad given it wasn't even from a 'real' episode. "Take it easy, lady! You just get out of prison?" LOL Truth be told, I never watched this show during its original run, but now, watching reruns, it's the only sitcom I currently love. Sadly, it won't be aired on Hallmark until its 24/7 Christmas puke-a-thon ends (1/2/19). However, TVLand has an 8-hour marathon of this show (8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. ET), every Sunday.

I know, I HATE that Christmas movie marathon, and my mom loves the movies, even she's sick of it. They started it this year with Kellie Pickler saying 'we have so many, we have to start showing them before Halloween'. NO YOU DON'T! You show the same ones 50 times between now and January, and the ONLY time you take a break is for that stupid Home and Family show in the morning, who the hell even WATCHES that crap? You keep that but you take away Lucy, the Golden Girls, Frasier, Murder She Wrote, Diagnosis Murder, Matlock, Columbo, etc?

Nova, you can watch MATLOCK, DIAGNOSIS: MURDER, and COLUMBO on MeTV. Also, PERRY MASON, THE TWILIGHT ZONE, ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS, and early episode of GUNSMOKE.

i enjoyed it at the time, don't find it quite so amusing when rewatching it recently. gets too sentimental at times. ALso, while I didn't mind it at the time, now that I am, I suppose, as old if not older thsn they were, I am a bit disconcerted rather than amused by their obsession with dating. WHy on earth do they want to do that at their age, I find myself thinking. CAn imagine nothing worse than starting all that again at my time of life.
