...Rey beat Luke in a light saber duel? I'm super excited for TLJ and I think Rian Johnson made something really good, but if Rey is more powerful than Luke and it goes as far as her beating him in a duel I think that I'd actually walk the theater.

I don't think anything would cause me to walk out of the theater, but I will complain about anything I don't like.

Only a fire could make me walk out of the theater. And even then, I'd probably call Jimmy John's and see what could be done about the situation before I gave up.

You might want to get warmed up to the idea that there's a good chance she's more powerful than he is. Should she be able to beat him in a duel in TLJ? No, that'd be silly. But are they building her up to be on Anakin's level in terms of roar power? Yes.

I brought up the topic because there is a alleged "leak" that she does indeed duel him and defeat him in TLJ which would explain the scene in the trailer where she is holding up her lightsaber and Luke is on the ground saying "this is not going to go the way your think". We'll see though, most of the time those "leaks" don't turn to be true.

This whole idea of making the hero stronger than the one from a previous film/trilogy is such a face palm fanboy thing to do, on par with "We gotta make this super weapon bigger than the last one!" I was even against Luke being "the strongest, most powerful Jedi EVAHHHH" simply because he's famous TO US. Why can't characters just be decently written?

It's a Disney Star Wars film. The safe bet would be to expect nonsense. Even Rogue One included a disturbing squid alien fondling scene. Is that on their official checklist or something, right next to "Token Black Guy"?

We'll see though, most of the time those "leaks" don't turn to be true. There's a difference between roar power and applied technique/knowledge. Whereas it is still up in the air at this point per Canon sources whether Rey has more roar power than Luke (although, I think signs indicate she does), his long years of training should allow him to defeat her during TLJ's timeline. I liken it unto the duel we saw between Dooku and Anakin in AOTC. It is clear that Anakin had more roar power, but was easily defeated by Dooku's broader knowledge base and experience.

I was even against Luke being "the strongest, most powerful Jedi EVAHHHH" simply because he's famous TO US. Why can't characters just be decently written? Well, first off, I think Rey is well-written. Second, I don't think Disney intends to make her stronger than previous characters. Like I said, I think she's on Anakin's level.

I don't think I'd walk out, but that would be the nail in the coffin for this new trilogy in my book.

Only if she beats him with ease. If its a good and fair fight, i'll be okay with it. But if she over powers him, ill disregard all disney films and refer to the books as the real canon.

I haven't been convinced to walk into the theater yet. It would stun me to hear that Rey doesn't beat Luke in a duel. There's already a rumor that she's more powerful than Yoda. Having her beat Luke is no stretch of the imagination.

But if I wanna see some hot squid action I can just go to the aquarium, thank you very much.

I think after what TFA established on Rey you could expect her to beat anybody with the possible exception of Snoke.
Even TLJ trailers hint that she might be able to beat Luke. He seems to be in awe of her in the training scenes.

I'll settle at throwing my drink at the screen.

No, I have a strong stomach.
There would be a precedent for this in rebels season 3 where rookie Sabine (a toned down rey character) beats Kanan a former Jedi padawan during training. But that scene is actually well written and rooted in character motivation. On this level it would be acceptable but still cringe worthy.

No. When I talk about this movie I need to know what I am talking about. Which means watching the whole damn thing. Nobody will dare tell me "You can't complain if you haven't watched it" or "You watched it you can't complain"

That scene was meant for the Japanese audience anyway.
