Just watched it again. An INCREDIBLY strong performance by Kathy Bates.
Great film, and very good performances by Jennifer Jason Leigh, Christopher Plummer, Ellen Muth, David Straithairn and Judy Parfitt.
But Bates performance was definitely worthy of an Oscar Nomination

I absolutely love that movie. It's in my top 50. I agree with you about Kathy Bates performance. I thought it was better than her Oscar-award winning performance in Misery.
Why no one ever talks about this movie is baffling to me. It's so well done and entertaining. Great story from Stephen King, and the cinematography of the solar eclipse scene is incredible.

I just finished watching it and I agree. I think it is a much better film than Misery and a much better performance by Bates, who delivers a mesmerizing performance.
Not a single Oscar nomination for this beautifully crafted film.
Excellent all around cast, too.
Nice score by Elfman.

Probably my favorite Kathy Bates performance. I absolutely love the scene after she’s abused and she waits til her daughter goes to bed before smashing a pitcher over her husbands head and threatens to kill him if he ever touched her again.
Also the mirror scene with the adult daughter freaks me out still.

One of the most underrated films of all-time. A complete masterpiece filled with stunning performances.
The story and how it’s tied together...just flawless.
