Disney has cast the lead for their live action "Mulan". The story is posted on IMDB. I'm looking forward to the movie.

It stands a chance to be really cool. Were they going to bother with including Mushu?

I dislike Disney's idea of remaking their animations as live action movies, but Mulan is one that could actually work really well. I just hope that they don't go overboard with the YOU GO GRRRLLL stuff.

I'm not a fan but if there's one thing I can credit Mulan for is that it avoids that cliche trap quite well.

It's hardly a cliche trap. It's literally the point of the movie. Girl power. Even her male comrades dress as women to save the day.

Mulan didn't hit audiences over the head in a way that their more recent Moana did. Mulan felt like a story with thematic content in it, while Moana felt agenda-driven to a point of becoming annoying. Disney movies in general have become less and less subtle.

Girl power. Even her male comrades dress as women to save the day. Well, I will at least admit the point of the film is up for debate. On one hand, it's an adaptation of an interesting Chinese legend, one I'm pretty sure was never really meant to be about "girl power". On the other hand, all the unnecessary comedy is so distracting that it could almost lead one to believe the film was meant to be nothing more than childish entertainment. The real answer is probably somewhere in between, but Mulan's respectful and, yes, feminine treatment is enough to at least believe the film had no blatant agendas. If it was meant to, the filmmakers didn't succeed, but I'm pretty sure that the film's balanced, subtle approach to Mulan was what was intentional.

Thanks for sharing. I am looking forward to seeing it. Hopefully live action movies of Pocahontas, the Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, Brave, The Aristocats, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers and a proper live action movie of 101 Dalmatians are next!!
