I just watched the episode The Suit of the 1969 British comedy anthology series Galton and Simpson Comedy, and was surprised to see a toilet appear for about 10 seconds. A toilet also plays an important role in the 1960 film Psycho. This 1961 commercial sorta shows a toilet: archive.org/details/1961CommercialForSani-flushOut of curiosity, can you people name some other early examples of a toilet appearing in classic films/TV?

Fun with Dick and Jane (1977) - Jane Fonda is shown sitting on a toilet - perhaps the first time an American movie showed one being used. The scene was copied with Nicole Kidman in Eyes Wide Shut.

The first American mainstream film to show someone actually using a toilet was CATCH-22 in 1970 -- when Col. Martin Balsam is shown holding court while upon the throne.
Here he is -- though not on that.

Thought of another one: Your Children and You (1946, UK, 28 minutes) - Instructional film for mothers, advising them on raising young children. A rather ugly toilet is seen on several occasions. Unless I'm mistaken a young child's potty is also shown.
Yes, I'm the kind of person who watches instructional films from the 1940s. They are often very interesting.....

Kinda funny latrine story. Back on the old IMDB Classics board a couple of innovative posters would post theme topics... "let's talk about movies with "x" type themes." They proved to be quite popular and active and clever. A troll decided to post a "parody/satire" with LATRINES as the topic. It ran for several pages and was actually quite interesting. The best laid plans of mice and trolls .... So this isn't really an end of the line topic when you come to think about it, eh ?

It was either this, or a "name early examples of a car being destroyed in a film" thread. If anyone wants to post that thread idea, they are welcome to.

Not an early tv example, BUT Archie Bunker was frequently heard to flush the toilet in All In the Family before coming downstairs to verbally abuse everyone. More recent : T-Rex excounters the gent in the porta-potty in Juraissic Park. Matthew the Swordsman

I love Neil Simon's The Cheap Detective, his spoof melding of "The Maltese Falcon," and "Casablanca," with Peter Falk in the Bogart character(s). Of course, the plot is ridiculous, as Simon intertwines the stories.
Marsha Mason plays Georgia Merkle, the comic counterpart to the widow, Iva Archer, played in TMF by Gladys George. In one scene, she's hiding in Falk's bathroom, and is holding the urn containing her late husband's ashes. The top of the urn loosens, and she spills the ashes into the toilet. "Sam" (Falk), flushes the toilet: "No use in crying over spilled husbands."
(couldn't find pic)

Two great fight scenes that just happen to both take place in toilets (apparently the men’s bathroom is where all the action is).
Casino Royale (2006).
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015).
Sorry they're not 'early'/'classic' films.
