God gave everyone free will and then killed them with a flood because they behaved poorly.
2 Kings 2: 23-24 God sent two bears to rip up children for mocking a bald man.
Genesis 31:14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death:
Deuteronomy 22:23 If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; 22:24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you. 22:25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die.
And don't forget Sodom and Gomorrah.
I stopped looking for death passages in the Bible. So .... Those that say the Bible is "The Good Book" are cherry-picking passages that support their own belief and ignoring all the ones that conflict with their beliefs.

God gave everyone free will and then killed them with a flood because they behaved poorly. You forget the biggest one of all, the global flood where God basically killed EVERYONE except Noah’s family.

More like you forgot it was the first one he mentioned in the OP.

Captainbryce, I'm interested to know how you came to change from being a Christian to a non-believer. Are you willing to talk about it?

Captainbryce, I'm interested to know how you came to change from being a Christian to a non-believer. Are you willing to talk about it? I’ve gotten this request several times now by several people. But after explaining that to one person and having them NOT believe me afterwards, I realized that from the perspective of a Christian, it’s a rather unbelievable story, and a difficult ask for someone in their position to accept it. I realized having been a Christian myself that I wouldn’t have believed it either if someone told me that. I would have insisted that they were making the whole thing up because I had already decided what the truth was. So knowing that Christians seem to be the only one interested in this question, and knowing that it’s an almost impossible thing to accept as a Christian, I tend to avoid the discussion now, finding it to be a waste of time and effort. Also because I have no desire to offend anyone or convert them to atheism. If you’re really interested in my story, just send me a PM. It’s nothing I’m going to talk about publicly.

To me, this is the religious equivalent of God doing this: And then...this... ...until he gets it right!

I believe most folks interpret the "Thou shalt not kill" to be Thou shalt not murder. Killing as punishment is fine per Bible God, as is killing during war or for self defense. At least that's how I think Bible believers would respond.

That's the official statement. Most likely, if the Book of Enoch is taken into account ,the Great Flood was meant to kill off the offspring between fallen angels and human wives. Anyway, it sounds cooler than "because mankind behaved poorly".

If God exists, then death doesn't matter so much.
So I'm fine with God 'killing' a bunch of people, since the existence of 'God' generally necessitates some form of afterlife.

At least that's how I think Bible believers would respond. You merely proved my point. All the homicides I mentioned in my OP are murder (in my opinion). And what about the Black Plague, smallpox, and hurricanes? Are those God's punishment? The Bible believers simply cherry-pick the Bible passages that support their hope that there is eternal life. As for justifiable homicide, all homicides are justifiable punishment. Just ask the person who killed them. Manson killed Sharon Tate because member of the establishment should not be allowed to live. Manson killed "Shorty" Shea because he was a "snitch". Bank robbers kill bank employees who attempt to stop them. In his own mind, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was justified in the Boston Marathon bombings.

OP is conflating the notion of free will and no consequence.
There's always been consequences to the freedom we enjoy.
Even without God in the picture, tons of people die based entirely on their own stupid, idiotic decisions.
God has no issues with killing anyone who puts his followers in danger. Why would he?

Yet he made them all that way. And I will kill her children with pestilence and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.
