Goldie Hawn in Foul Play 1978, if I'm not wrong she was watching an Alan Ladd movie, and something horrible will soon happen both on the screen and in the threatre she is sitting in.

there is a drive in movie theater in TARGETS (1968). Out of the Furnace (2013) opens with a scene in a drive-in movie theater. Psycho Woody Harrelson batters a customer to a pulp. I do not remember the film being shown, probably a slasher movie.

In David Lean's The Sound Barrier 1952 (story and screenplay by Terence Rattigan), Ann Todd goes to the cinema to take her mind off things while her husband (Nigel Patrick) is attempting to break the sound barrier in an experimental aircraft.
The film was made at Shepperton Studios, and the cinema she is seen entering was the Regal Cinema in Walton-on-Thames (my home town, just across the river from the studios) which happened to be where I was watching the movie. I still remember the titters and muted cheers as we local yokels recognized the cinema.
I cannot remember the film showing and advertised outside, but I do remember it was another David Lean movie.

The Mayfair Music Hall, Santa Monica, CA Pictured below in 1929, when it was known as the Majestic Theater: Constructed in 1913 as the Santa Monica Opera House, it was renamed in the 'teens and began running films. Its facade is briefly visible in a drive-by shot in Models, Inc. (1952). It was renamed the Mayfair in 1967, and continued running films until 1973, when it was restored to a live performance venue and called the Mayfair Music Hall. In its most famous onscreen appearance, only the interior is seen, when Victor introduces his creation to the scientific community in Young Frankenstein (1974): Located at the western end of Santa Monica Blvd, the waves of the Pacific were breaking on the shore only 1000 feet from the Mayfair's stage left as Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle tapped to "Puttin' On the Ritz." A 1978 photo: Its interior made another onscreen appearance in 1987's Someone To Love: Damaged in the 1994 earthquake, the building was eventually demolished, to be replaced by retail and condos, but its facade was preserved as part of the new construction. As it appears today:

Robert Stack takes a breather and steps into a theatre to watch DUMBO.
Here is a screenshot at the entrance to the theatre. I wanted a photo of the marquee but I could not find one. The marquee is featured on the poster for 1941.
THE DAY OF THE LOCUST includes the premiere of Cecil B. DeMille's THE BUCCANEER.
BONNIE AND CLYDE features a scene in a movie theatre showing GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933.
The EARTHQUAKE begans while Victoria Principle is watching HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER in a theatre.
Outside the theatre.
