Those of you who like John Galsworthy's masterpiece should not miss the chance to see One More River, tg1934 film of the last novel in the series. By this time the novels are interested in the life of a cousin by marriage of the younger Forsytes. She's a young woman of an impoverished county family , smart and funny but not entirely at home in the 20th century . Her sister , much more modern, is about to divorce her husband for sadism. It's the first mainstream novel I can recall to take up this theme. The film is also the debut of Jane Wyatt as Dinnie, the lead character of the three novels. Diana Wynyard plays the sister embarking on divorce.
One More River is on TCM. US at 9:30 PM EST

S.J. Perelman intended to call his memoirs The Hindsight Saga. Unfortunately he died after completing only a few chapters.

Sorry if you missed this! Wynyard and Frank Lawton were wonderful as the young lovers, and Colin Clive was a complete surprise, brutal and tough in a way I would never think he'd manage based on his Dr Frankenstein. Finally it was a chance to see Mrs Patrick Campbell. She was more Marie Dressler than the part called for. She should have been much more vague, more Alice Brady. But She is a legendary actress who originated Eliza Doolittle and other Shaw parts, and she made very few films.
