A year and a bit ago, Falkirk lined up against Kilmarnock in the second leg of a play-off game with a 1-0 lead, with the winners playing in the SPL the following season. Killie won 4-0 to maintain their top tier status and Falkirk were left licking their wounds but resolved to go one better the following season. This followed a similar disappointment they had suffered the previous season. In 2015 they reached the Scottish Cup Final, losing to Inverness 1-2, then after a slow start to this season they sacked manager Peter Houston in September.
Today they lie second bottom of the Championship, 8 points behind Inverness and already looking doomed for relegation to League One.
Where did it all go wrong ? After being the "nearly men" I expected then to run away with the Scottish Championship this season, not get relegated. Maybe something untoward happened internally, but that is just a guess. Perhaps they sold all their best players ? Whatever. But it seems a shame that they have gone in the opposite direction to the one I expected.

One win from 14 games all season isn't good is it.
It's those two cold wet dark months of the season now... the time when pretty football hibernates, and grinding out wins on sodden or freezing pitches that are cutting up, using hard graft and bloody mindedness take centre stage.
Does that favour Falkirk?
