Caught this one on Netflix Friday night. The original film I greatly enjoyed when I first saw it in the year 1996. Now, not so much but it definitely has its moments. With this belated sequel, I'm struggling to find something positive to say. It's just further evidence Roland Emmerich is a pretty dreadful filmmaker. All the massive CGI destruction is boring, any attempts at emotional resonance falls flat, any humor is completely unintentional ("For 20 years the world has seen no armed conflict. Nations have put their petty differences aside."). Plus you have Judd Hirsch driving around a school bus full of kids... because that's an itch which needs scratching. At least godly Goldblum has a couple of decent lines. But seriously, this movie can kiss my ass.
3/10

I would say that it's totally forgettable from start to finish. but I never made it to the end.

I think I'm the only one who has seen the first film but has never given in to the temptation to see this one. Judging from all that I've read, I did myself a favor.

I actually don't mind Roland Emmerich most of the time, but Independence Day: Resergence makes 10,000 B.C. look like a wrok of art. It has what may be the worst screenplay of the decade (if you can even call it a screenplay), it has bad acting from almost the entire cast, it has terrible editing, hideous cinematography, cgi that is inferior to the original and it looks like almost the entire movie was filmed in fron of a green screen. Just awful. I mean Bill Pullman's perfermance is awful and the the two new additions (the B-Grade Hemsworth brother and the black guy) are charisma vacuums. Even Goldblum looks bored.
I still enjoy the original btw and I even enjoy Godzilla (1998).
2/10 I have only given this rating out a handful of times.

meh, I saw this a few month ago and cannot remember anything except that it sucked. Best I can say about it is that I loathed the "original" abomination too, so this franchise is at least consistent.

Liked the first one and was very disappointed with this one. It had such a bad script and the as many above me have said, the actors were equally bad. Can not blame it on having too high expectation going in, cause it still would've sucked.

I did see this film in theaters on opening day. I knew it didn't have Will Smith, but a lot of the original cast made an appearance, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
I agree, it was pretty horrible. They should not have even considered it to begin with without Smith.
I'd give it 5/10. It was just another popcorn flick for me. I don't intend on watching it again.

It's another case of "TOO LATE". Yup, big letdown I thought. While I appreciated that they tried to expand on the story's universe, there really just wasn't much in the character department to latch on to. The whole "Crystal Skull" deal...good try, but didn't do anything for me.

Not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it was awful. I wonder if that third part will get made now.

So at the end of this silly movie, if the queen is dead and all her little minions inoperable (I think they all fell out of the sky when she was killed), who drives the ship away?

2/10 - and I'm being generous!
The movie was so forgettable that by the time I reached the half way mark, I had already forgotten what the story was.

Watched about 40 minutes of this on cable and gave up...The first one is no masterpiece, but at least it was watchable...
