Whoa. I'm not sure if that's awesome or worrying.

He said that the first cut was three hours long, but that was in his own opinion not the final cut. In the same interview he said that the eventual 150 minute cut is by far the best version of the movie and that he is not interested in a director's cut, since he considers the version to be shown in cinema's to be the director's cut. He did say that some of his favorite scenes had to be cut, because it didn't work with the rest of the movie. The deleted scenes will be released as extra's on the dvd release.

Sounds like the best of circumstances to me. It's not like TLJ is under 2 hours.

Isn't this completely normal?
The assembly cut is always a lot longer.
Each following cut gets shorter.

If he's going for the best story at the expense of the best scenes, then it sounds like he did the right thing. We will see soon!

Hearing this, I'm wondering if Disney is going to do another double dip for the Last Jedi bluray release? Put out the regular edition around April and then another release, with all the deleted footage, at the end of the year.

Sometimes The Assembly Cut of a Movie is actually much Much MUCH better than the Theatrical Cut.
Just look at what happened with "ALIEN 3". The Assembly Cut of it is almost a Completely Different and Much Better Movie than the Theatrical Cut is.
