6/10. Fairly disappointing but entertaining and watchable regardless.

#15 The sequel to the surprise hit of 2014! Thoughts? 8.5 - An excellent character study. I am so happy they had the balls to take this approach instead of trying to outdo what they had done in the first film. Breaking each of the main characters off and giving them a new character to further reflect off of was an absolute master stroke. Yondu and Rocket further defined each other, Nebula revealed Gamora's dark past and her own humanity, Ego forced peter into his place, and Drax and Mantis were just amazing. It's incredible that the MCU is able to deliver on this kind of a level.

It's fine but I think it failed to capture the magic of the original. The soundtrack wasn't as good as the first, some of the characters annoyed the shit out of me, and it's just a pretty forgettable movie. That being said, I enjoyed watching it, I wasn't bored, the visuals are incredible and it has a few great scenes. I liked it enough that I'll buy it on blu ray and watch it again but I don't think it compares to the original. Who knows, maybe I'll pull a 180 on rewatch. That's happened to me several times.

Ok, so that we understand what we mean the word disappointed, I'll agree to the point that I gave the first a 10, and this one an 8.5, but I wouldn't classify that as disappointment by any stretch. It's not really supposed to capture the magic of the original, or compare. It's different take with a focus on character study, and to that point they hit the nail on the head. So I was extremely pleased with the direction and couldn't possibly be disappointed when they executed exactly what they meant to, and gave us some really great character arcs with sprinklings of solid action. I mean if I saw some artists best painting, am I then disappointed by all of his other great paintings? I just don't understand using the word that way.

That's the thing, I felt like that they were trying to recreate what we enjoyed about the original and didn't do the best job at doing so. The characters were at times obnoxious, and the jokes were mostly unfunny and were dragged out way too long.

Oh, well I guess I felt they were doing something new and I never found anybody obnoxious or any of the jokes to drag, so I guess we're just on different pages. It was just a great character study from where I sit.
I actually really love songs like Mr. Blue Sky now too, so the soundtrack was great IMO.

I'm just not a fan of this series. It's the only MCU series I dislike. I've tried to get the first one to grow on me, but I just can't. I saw this one hoping to like it better, but found it to be worse.

That's one of the reasons why I wanna rewatch it. Before watching Vol. 1 I already knew (and loved) all the songs so hearing them in the movie was a complete blast. For volume 2, I watched it not knowing most of the soundtrack so I feel like if I listen to the Vol 2 score, I'll end up liking the songs and enjoying hearing them when I revisit the movie a second time.

8/10
Last one in my top 5. I love this one more than the original. The Dad/Son triangle is great. The message about seeing beyond the obvious and superficial is quite deep sometimes. It runs through all the relationships. Even Groot and Drax's relationship. Its a great film that is often misunderstood by some corny jokes.

9/10. There's a joke in this film that i ABSOLUTELY hate, so cringy! . But the visuals and characters definitely kept me coming back for me.
Plus Kurt Russell as a celestial egotistical being? Hell yeah!
