IMHO, she was one of the best actresses that I've ever seen. She was a marvel in THE MIRACLE WORKER (both versions, where she played Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan) and also excellent in that otherwise silly sitcom.
But what I really love about her was her openness about her bi-polar disease. She was one of the people who helped erase the stigma of mental illness as something shameful, to be kept hidden. I've read her autobiography "Call Me Anna", and it was really pitiful how her greedy managers, the Rosses, exploited her talent for their own gain. And when she was finally free of their control, she made some bad decisions, such as playing Neely in VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, or having an affair with the underage Desi Arnaz, Jr. Of course, that was her bi-polarism beginning to manifest itself.
I was saddened when she died last year at age 69. I bet she may have still had excellent performances in her.

Patty Duke is one of my favorite all-time actresses & people too. She also did some singing ... not her strongest talent.
I also read about all the hard times Patty went through in her life. She brought so much joy to so many ... she deserved better.
Top Film #21 The Miracle Worker (1962) 10/10 ... great movie ... Patty sparkled.
Top Film #125 Valley of the Dolls (1967) 9/10 ... this film is hated by many but I love it ... flaws and all.
The Patty Duke Show 9/10 ... she played 3 characters at once ... how insane is that cousins Patty ... Cathy ... and Betsy
3 roles for Patty Duke ...

I loved Patty Duke and was also saddened by her death last year. The first time I saw her was in "The 3D Man," when I was about 7, and then she had a very small but important part in "The Goddess," as a young Marilyn Monroe type.
But, of course, there was The Miracle Worker, and she was just marvelous as Helen Keller. Definitely deserved an Oscar, though she was up against some powerhouse competition (Angela Lansbury in The Manchurian Candidate, for example). We used to watch her sitcom, which I remember being MUCH funnier than it is now! The YouTube posting comes across as rather flat, to me. And the episodes I've watched as an adult were also lacking something. it wasn't Patty's fault, who gave it all she had. Maybe it was just the writing.
I've followed Patty throughout her career and always thought she wasn't given her due by Hollywood. Rest in peace!

Although it still had good ratings, THE PATTY DUKE SHOW was cancelled in 1966 because the networks made a rule that all future programs would be made in color, and ABC would not allot Screen Gems the $$$ for color equipment. By then, though, Patty had turned 18, was legally free of the Rosses' control, and collected the salary that had been put in trust for her. But, as I said earlier, she then made some poor decisions that almost ended her career and affected her private life. It had long been believed that Sean Astin's biological father was Desi Arnaz, Jr. After Sean dug into his roots, he learned that his conception was the result of a one-night stand with Michael Tell, who (briefly) became Patty's second husband. It looked as though Patty would have had a successful marriage with John Astin (she billed herself as "Patty Duke Astin"), who adopted Sean and sired Mackenzie with her. But they divorced in 1985, and it was then that Patty learned she was bi-polar. At the time of her death, she was happily married to her fourth husband, Michael Pierce. RIP, Patty.

Watched an old "Match Game 78" on Buzzzr network and couldn't get over how good looking she was in the late 70's-early 80's. When she died, was she still married to Gomez Addams?
