What a charmer this one was. I recall seeing it when I was about 8 or 9yrs old and was so captivated, that I felt like I was in a trance or had been hypnotized by the film, that I could barely remember or recollect the film once it was over. I was so in the moment of it all, that all I could really recall, was the film starting, the eerie flashback sequences, and the spaceship hovering over the trees at the end. I turned to the lady that took us, and said..."Is that it"... or something of the sort. It seemed like the film was only about 5 minutes long. I have never experienced that feeling of being so utterly enthralled by a film, that I forgot where I was, in a cinema watching a film. Have seen it many times since and still love it. The 78' sequel, which I only saw on VHS, was ok; but didn't hold the same magic.

It needs a rewatch. I first watched it on TCM in 2008 when they were doing a rare classic live-action Disney films marathon, and I remember really liking it.

Saw it (and maybe even the sequel) at a drive-in for sure but can't remember anything about it/them.

I first saw it at 8 as well, and I loved it. I still enjoy it as an adult when I catch a bit of it on TV now and then.

I remember little about it though I watched reruns of it a lot back in the day.

Saw this at a matinee as a kid, loved it then. Never got to see the sequel, so I ordered both off Amazon awhile back. The original is still great, the sequel is okay, but at least you have the pleasure of watching Bette Davis and Christopher Lee acting together. That Richards girl grew up to be one of those crazy reality TV housewives, I believe.

By the time the sequel came out in 78', we had already been spoiled by Star Wars and Close Encounters and the cheap looking spaceship effects at the beginning just weren't up to scratch, even though they would have been keeping in context with the look of the first. It just wasn't able to retain the same magic, or wasn't as thrilling either.
