What We Know about Jennifer Garner Action Film “Peppermint” So Far
What we know about Peppermint, an action thriller starring Jennifer Garner, isn’t all that much so far. At this point what we do know is the fact that it will be a return to the action genre for Garner, who really hasn’t seen much of that since her role in the ill-fated Elektra movie and before that as the same character in Ben Affleck’s abysmal attempt as Daredevil. Garner is no stranger to action since she did star in Alias for a while before getting into the action movie scene, but it’s still been a while since we got to see her flex her muscles on the big screen. Peppermint is slated to come out in 2018.
What little else is known about the film is that it will focus on Garner’s character. Her family is gunned down in a drive-by shooting that leaves her in a coma. When she wakes up she finds that there is no justice being done and nothing that can be done to bring justice for her family. So instead of depending on the police she takes the only other route that is so readily available in movies and trains herself intensely for the next ten years, turning herself into a lethal killing machine with little if any remorse. In a sense the story sounds as though it might lead to the old cautionary tale that has to do with hunting monsters. It’s often wise to take care that one does not become the monster.
To be honest it’s not too far of a cry from her role as Elektra, though there are some notable differences. For one, Elektra was raised with a harsh, overbearing father that wanted her to be highly trained and inordinately tough, according to the movie adaptation anyway. Plus, Elektra was already an assassin before she died for the first time. Her role in this coming movie will place her as a mother and wife before she ever becomes the hardened killer that she is destined to be.
Revenge movies tend to be very popular with certain crowds as they give us an idea of what might happen to anyone that is pushed too far and is forced to lose those that they love. The reality however is that this happens far too often and those of us that think we would go renegade have neither the means nor the nerve to do such a thing. Most common, law-abiding citizens would only go rogue in the worst circumstances, and even then the reality of their situation would hit them like a ton of bricks, and their conscience would make it nearly impossible for them to continue with such a life.
You would think that losing a spouse and a child would leave you with a sour taste in your mouth if there was no justice done for them, and you might be right. But the fact is that a lot of people would wallow in despair long before they took the kind of measures you see in movies.

Garner showed up on the set of "Peppermint" in Los Angeles as production began Tuesday, Nov. 7. The actress has been preparing for her role for months through a grueling workout schedule.
"Peppermint" centers on a mom and wife who becomes a trained assassin following a harrowing personal experience. She loses her husband and child in a drive-by shooting, while she also suffers a coma.
When Garner's character wakes up from her coma, she becomes determined to go after her family's murderers. It takes 10 years for her to set her plan in motion because she's some powerful but corrupt personalities.
Chad St. John wrote the screenplay to "Peppermint" with Pierre Morel as director. "I, Tonya" star Margot Robbie was also considered for the role before it ended up on Garner's lap.
Garner just got off from working on "The Tribes of Palos Verdes," where she plays a mom and wife who was betrayed by her husband. The film will hit U.S. theaters on Dec. 1. She also finished work on the comedy "Love Simon," where she plays Nick Robinson's mother.
"Peppermint" will mark the actress' return to action flicks after playing safe mom roles for years. Garner is no stranger to doing stunts on the set since she starred as the spy Sydney Bristow on "Alias" from 2001 to 2006. She also played the superhero Elektra in the 2003 "Daredevil" movie with her ex-husband Ben Affleck.
Meanwhile, Lakeshore and Lionsgate have yet to confirm further details of the movie. Aside from Garner, Pell James ("The Lincoln Lawyer") and John Ortiz ("Replicas") have been the only names added to the cast. The studio plans a 2018 outing for "Peppermint" but an actual theater date has not also been calendared as of press time.
