What can they do with the character, honestly? I like the idea of Ewan coming back (possibly) but where can they take Obi-Wan's story and make it an interesting/new experience?

An Obi-Wan movie set between ep3 and 4 is interesting to me. A lot more interesting than a Han Solo origin...

That's what writers are for. I haven't disliked a Star Wars movie yet and I don't expect to dislike this one.

I'm trying to be open minded about the standalone movies...I was pleasantly surprised by Rogue One, so it's possible they can pull off something good. I think it's very much contingent on Ewan coming back though (for me).

Oh ye of little faith and imagination! Don't you know how many stories could be told about him between the times of ROTS and ANH?! One has to assume he left Tatooine for some reason from time to time. He didn't just stay in a hut for 20 years.
Maybe there were Jedi who survived the purge who he tried to help. Maybe he becomes the guy that helps Jedi get to safe places where they can hide. Maybe the Empire comes after him and he has to stay on the run on Tatooine. Maybe there's a great story with him and the Sand People. Maybe he has to go visit Yoda for some reason. Maybe Yoda sends him on missions. Maybe Yoda even goes with him! Maybe we'll even get to see Luke as a little kid. Maybe he adopts a different identity and goes out and does all kinds of things to screw up the Empire and the Sith.
One thing in particular that I want to know is how did Leia (ANH) and Organa (R1) know he was on Tatooine? There must have been some kind of contact. Tell that story.
There's so much to do. In fact I could see them do a whole trilogy!

But this movie wouldn't be that, since its set in the Star Wars universe. Use your IMAGINATION.

Don't tell me what to do! Apologies. I often expect more from people than they expect to give. LOL

I understood why they re-cast Ford, but Ewan is still young enough. As a matter of fact he's just the right age.

I am sad that Rian Johnson has been dragged into this. Whether you like TLJ or not, Rian Johnson definitely doesn't deserve this. He's one of the most talented current directors.

He really doesn't. I have yet to see Episode 8, but at the end of the day, Rian Johnson is a real person in the world who tried to make the best Star Wars movie he could. The same goes for George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, Richard Marquand, J.J. Abrams, and Gareth Edwards. A person can disagree with the choices a certain director made without resorting to personal attacks - it's called being an adult. Cyberbullying him isn't right. At the end of the day, they're just movies.

I had the thought to include Qui-Gon Jinn in this film, since during this period he was supposed to be teaching Obi-Wan how to combine with the force.

Saying he is one of the most talented current directors is hardly a compliment given people like Michael Bay out there. Johnson was a compliant Disney employee. In ye olden days directors and writers would fight a lot. On Empire Kershner had disagreements with Lucas who thought he could direct the film by surrogate.
Disney can easily replace a director who does not want to bend to their will.
As for an Obi Wan movie-sounds great in theory, but once it goes through Disney's SJW filter it will be less appealing. Guaranteed.
One expects a strong hero character-and Disney will not do that with a white male character-so that means he has to have a multicultural crew who do most of the plot moving.
