Love 1970s music but hate 1970s films. My taste in films leans more towards the 1930s and 1950s to be honest.

Then what's YOUR opinion? Which decade? Much too hard to form an opinion. Ive been listening to music since the 50s, so I have heard a great variety of is what I music. My music is from, like '67-to the metal/hairband years. Rock with great guitar breaks are generaly what I listen to, with exceptions of course. I haven't listened to the radio since the early 80s, and I don't know much of the music after that. Friends with similar taste as mine will tell me when there is something I should listen to. Dave Simmons, Creator and Master of Savoy Brown, just had his 70th birthday. 50 years of constant touring. John Mayall has been doing it longer than that. But I have no idea which decade produced the best music, because I haven't really listened to all the music. I listen to what I like.

There is no best or worst decade for any of those things. As long as they are being made, every decade has it's wonderful examples of whatever art you're most into.

In terms of TV, I love live variety shows, single-play anthology series, and family sitcoms....three genres that quite simply do not exist in the 21st century.

Those things are more specific than the broad nature of this topic would suggest. I guess since I don't believe in such a limited scope myself, I'm always able to discover the good in everything each decade.

60s and 70s were better than the 80s and 90s (which were better than the fucking awful 2000s and 2010s) but I suppose it depends on your personal interests and experiences.
It was cool to see the Empire Strikes Back in 1980 without knowing anything about it though. I thought Yoda was going to be someone like Brian Blessed or Franco Nero.

There are many other kinds of shows I like.....the three I mention above are just examples of the many kinds of television programming which is no longer produced.

just happen (in general) to have the BEST and GREATEST in film, music, books and comic books? !!! Some of that is debatable, but definitely it was an amazin decade for American films. The auteur director took over in Hollywood and we got such classics as Godfathers 1 and 2, Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, Jaws, Rocky, Star Wars, Superman the movie, etc...
