Y'know, one never hears about Dick's younger brother Jerry. He's had it pretty rough in life, what with numerous TV failures (except COACH), losing his home in an earthquake, and losing his daughter to suicide. I hope he's OK.

Dick Van Dyke should be made Emperor. I am amazed that it's never been done ! And MTM could/should be Empress.

I hope he's ok,although I never enjoyed him the I did Brother Dick. When Dick was having lean patches , Jerry was very successful, lots of movie parts and good tv guest shots, then his long run on Coach when Dick couldn't get a series going. Suddenly, at 92 Dick is in the news again. I hope they got along well.

Mary Poppins was on ABC the other night. It was a nice surprise even with the commercial breaks. Wonderful film. DVD made it the best. I love the sequence of the song "I Love to Laugh".

vegalyraSome people complain bitterly about his accent in Mary Poppins. Somehow, it never bothered me and I find him so charming in that film that I will watch it often, if for no other reason, for the penguin dance.

In recent years I've enjoyed JVD in his recurring role on The Middle as the grandfather, and also opposite Cloris Leachman on Raising Hope. JVD & DVD even appeared together, as brothers, on The Middle in 2015.

Brother Jerry .
He seems like the kid of guy who would say
"Hey ! This is Dickie's Day. Ask about me some other way. And Pass the chips and dips, would ya ? "
Somehow I missed that episode of The Middle with the two of them ... DRAT !

'Diagnosis Murder'. Great show! We worked our way through all episodes some years back, and are now doing so again. It's got everything: serious ones; comedic ones; homages; satires; "open" murders; "closed" murders. And it gives Van Dyke a showcase for all his talents. As the proverbial star of stage, screen and television, and who has excelled in all with mastery of both physical and verbal comedy along with dramatic chops to be reckoned with, he is, simply put, a national treasure.

Dick with his son Barry in Diagnosis Murder. Barry plays his son. His grandsons appeared in a couple of episodes. Would not be surprised to find that brother Jerry did as well. (new format of IMDb does not make it easy to find out tho')
