Gender roles reversed for the remake of an 80s classic, ya don't say. How groundbreaking.

Why not just remake The African Queen instead? Overboard was kinda shit.

I love the original. I like Anna Faris. I'll admit I have no idea who the male actor is in this, but they could have picked someone closer in age to Anna Faris and perhaps a little more attractive. No offense to the guy.

The original was quite amusing, though it went on a bit too long. I can't really visualise it with gender roles reversed though.

So unnecessary. I love the original, and I can't imagine a remake will capture the same magic Goldie and Kurt gave the original.

I don't think it's considered a classic or anything 80's nostalgia. They're just dipping deep into that well these days. It won't be long before we get a Jewel of the Nile reboot.

I love that movie.. I watch it anytime I see it come on tv. Really don't need to have this remade.

I can't really visualise it with gender roles reversed though. well he can be a rich snob and she can be a maid with 3 or 5 kids (not sure how many Kurt had), he falls off a boat....and that's that. now since they want to update it, they might try and make his amnesia tied to an attempted murder leading to a more action-y 3rd act, or rather than making it a boat they make it more extravagant (and dumb) and make it skydiving gone wrong, or if they want to make more tender they'll make him suicidal. personally i'm "meh" to this, not a anna farris fan. :/

I can't put too much blame on Hollywood for that.

There have been story tellers for as long as there has been language. I blame it more on political affiliation determining who gets work in Hollywood as opposed to genuine talent.

I'll just file this remake under 'Not gonna watch'
So ironically Anna Farris is taking the place of Kurt Russel in the remake while Kurt Russell is busy making a movie where he plays Chris Pratts father, Chris Pratt being Anna Farris' husband, interesting.

Is there any need to make it political? We're not on the Politics board. I'd say it's more financially oriented. Hollywood is a business and a business doesn't want to take risks and since creativity is inherently risky, they're more inclined to play it safe and repeat what worked before. Until they're put into the position where they need to make gambles again, that likely won't change.

I think the role reversal can work, because both can show their level of incompetence in standard tasks, as well as raising kids. they just have to Mrs. Doubtfire it a tad, learning to cook, clean, change a diaper. now this one may have more of a message, but I hope they keep it subtle. granted I doubt it will be more than a catch it on cable type of film.

You may be on point about business and risk taking. As Ghostbusters 2016 showed us though, the safety of a remake doesn't always pay off.
