Never before has a Star Wars movie seen such negative blowback from its own fanbase! OUCH! *ahem* Phantom Menace? The Clone Wars animated film?

I think the bigger issue is fake positive reviews and paid critics. This movie would be a hard pill to swallow for long time fans to be heaping it with so much praise. I can completely see Newer Audiences to Star Wars enjoying this film. But not long time fans in general Exactly this. Nailed it.

And then I feel also some critics just can’t stand to say something was “okay” or “good”. If its Star Wars it’s either the second coming or “they need to see it again”, “not sure how I feel”. Etc If this was a DC film the critics would have absolutely no problem saying that they thought it was only okay or that they don’t LOVE it. That’s why I’m scared about Disney being so powerful. I think if you’re not in the Disney club then you’re cut off.

Forty percent win Fox's holdings, but you know the Disney machine will be able to streamline that into 50% in no time. They've already tried blacklisting critics and imposing onerous restrictions on theaters and consumers. What's next?

We've already disproved the paid critics theory several times and none of those reviews look fake to me. Colden, you're better than this. I get that you don't like the film, but saying the praise it got from certain parties is fake is just not right. My mom and dad have been fans since they saw the original film together in 1977 and they liked The Last Jedi. So obviously not all long time fans feel the same way. This is more of a case of love it or hate it. Its dividing the fanbase. Again.

It introduces and then subverts just about every trope the series has become known for. It also touches on a lot of issues such as the Jedi Order's screw-ups during the prequel trilogy. And while The Force Awakens had the New Republic and First Order reenacting the Rebels vs. Empire struggle, this film has them breaking away from how things were done in the original trilogy and finding their own answers to solving their problems. At this point, its broken away from the nostalgia recreation from the previous and its off to do its own thing now.

Indeed, but don't go in expecting perfection. This is NOWHERE CLOSE to being a perfect film. There are flaws, but I didn't personally feel any of them were deal-breakers. I felt like there was enough good here to keep it enjoyable.

Yeah, I watched a YouTube review by Chris Stuckmann and he said the film's weakest part was Finn/Rose story.
But still, if this film is really THAT batsh!t insane as people are saying, then I better watch this thing after my exams are done...
I mean, for 'The Force Awakens' and 'Rogue One', I knew what to expect with the former being a fun epic space opera in 70s fashion and the latter being a gritty war film set in a 'Star Wars' universe. 'The Last Jedi' though? I think that might be a different story...

I have to disagree with him on that front. The weakest point for me was Purple-Haired Laura Dern vs. Poe Dameron. You'll understand when you see it. Yeah, this is love it or hate it. No in between this time around. Last Jedi is a different story. And if you're familiar Rian Johnson, you'll recognize his language. It is very much intact.

I enjoyed the film. Some of the new characters they added (like Rose) didn't do much but overall a good film. 8.5/10.

Honestly it wasn't their story line that bugged me (I actually enjoyed it) but rather I couldn't stand Rose. Felt like a added character to further diversify the cast.

As much as I hate to say it, this felt like the most soulless thing I've ever seen from Star Wars. While I still enjoyed it, mostly Poe and Kylo, it felt really off to me. This is coming from someone who has never rated any Star Wars media negatively. (Just to confirm, I've never actually watched the holiday special, which I'm sure I'd trash)

This is more of a case of love it or hate it. Its dividing the fanbase. Again. Maybe not paid. But I truly believe some of them are intellectually dishonest with themselves. I just don’t believe these Disney movies consistently get these extremely high scores while audiences clearly felt different in this case. This movie is divisive yet the critics act like it was incredible. Most all criticism is swept under the rug quickly and they dont linger on it. I’m not sure if it’s nostalgia, scared of their fan base, scared of Disney not letting them come to the next premiere. But something is definitely off man. Go look at the screen junkies “review”. It’s a 20 minute video of them dancing around the fact they might be disappointed. I never see critics do this with other films. I respect people liking it, but ALL the critics? Something doesn’t sit right. This movie had the lowest audience score of any SW to date.

Williams score does sound better though. I dont think it has the sound of the originals but it has some nice tunes.
I think Disney does exert a little bit of its own Jedi mind tricks on the critics. Like, you hard on this movie and maybe we wont let you attend the opening of....blah blah blah.
Disney becoming the only boss in town doesn't help.
