Either that or movie critics don't watch many movies made before the 2000 era.

99% of those ratings are from fake accounts. Almost all of the accounts were registered on the day the rating was posted. Same thing happened with TFA. Go on IMDB and metacritic. 95% of the reviews were negative even though the average user gave the film an 8.0 or higher. IMDb only count ratings from regular voters

I think Disney does exert a little bit of its own Jedi mind tricks on the critics. Of course you do. Of course you don't.

I've heard that this is one massive mindf*ck of a 'Star Wars' film. Is this actually true? It introduces and then subverts just about every trope the series has become known for. It also touches on a lot of issues such as the Jedi Order's screw-ups during the prequel trilogy. And while The Force Awakens had the New Republic and First Order reenacting the Rebels vs. Empire struggle, this film has them breaking away from how things were done in the original trilogy and finding their own answers to solving their problems. At this point, its broken away from the nostalgia recreation from the previous and its off to do its own thing now. I heard from some reviews that the movie really lives up to its own quote " Let the past die". Is it a fair description?

I gave it 75%. I thought it was a very well done movie, the quality of both acting and cinematography was very high (same goes for effects). Had it not been a SW movie it would have been an even higher score from me. However, I stand with Mark Hamill on this one, and I did not enjoy the choices written for Luke to make throughout this movie. To me it deviated from his character too much.
But it would be hard to say (and be actually able to rationally defend) that this was not a well made movie. It was.

I'm curious as to what your thoughts will be.

I think this movie will be talked about for a long time, which is a good thing. Johnson took risks, which is what I wanted, but I didn't like most of them.
I think that this was the movie that finally cemented Disney's approach with this trilogy as different than the approach for the other two. Either you like the new direction, or you don't.
And I don't.

Well, that's an idea Kylo Ren pushes really hard throughout, but I didn't notice "Let the past die" being much of a thing, per se. For me, it seemed to be more about not repeating the mistakes of the past and instead finding your own answers. This film sets itself up to be the Sequel Trilogy's parallel to The Empire Strikes Back as The Force Awakens was a parallel to A New Hope, but then the new characters (on both sides) did things their own way, creating a completely different series of events despite the initial setup.

It was better than The Force Awakens but it's still far from flawless and good. While everything in TFA pointed to the fact that Rey is a Mary Sue , it is now confirmed in The Last Jedi. Still the part that made me laugh : " You're Dangerous!"Told the exact same way: All it missed was the music: Otherwise the movie was slow and offered very little information on important subjects Snoke? on top of seeing a lot of people just die while they kinda had something going like a small story line. Still somewhat entertaining but not worth more than a 7/10

I watched it this morning, found it meh. I was disappointed since I had heard that it had a critic score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. It's sort of slow and predictable. There isn't the humorous light touch of the original trilogy. It's too somber. Some plot lines go nowhere. So they go to all the trouble for like one hour of trying to disable the light speed tracker... and then just plain fail? All the mystery about Rey's parents... and then she is just a nobody? Luke repeats Obi Wan and Yoda, and just allows himself to die so that he goes to another plane of existence? (repetitious) What's the point of the Rosa character? All the Kylo-Rey Force-driven telepathy contacts were dragging on and on... I'm not even sure if I find it better than TFA, and I hadn't liked that one that much either. TLJ, I'd give it a 6 out of 10. For me the best one of the modern films is Rogue One.

TLJ is basically a retcon and erased all the groundwork that was put in place by TFA. It feels like they went to the storyboard at last minute and tore down all the plot points...This movie figuratively spins its wheels in place and accomplishes nothing of importance other than Ruining Characters like Luke.
