Without any spoilers, why is it so damn low? It ain't far off being rotten.
The Phantam Menace has a 59% itself.

The Empire Strikes Back: 9.0 (4% "negative") 2. Star Wars/A New Hope: 8.7 (4% "negative") 3. Return of the Jedi: 8.3 (3% "negative") 4. Revenge of the Sith: 7.6 (9% "negative") 5. Rogue One: 7.6 (10% "negative") 6. The Force Awakens: 6.9 (20% "negative") 7. The Phantom Menace: 6.0 (17% "negative") 8. Attack of the Clones: 5.9 (18% "negative") >>> 9. The Last Jedi: 5.4 (39% "negative")

Its deserved. The film is too long, at times boring and the ending isnt satisfying.

Yeah I just wrote a spoilers review with some of those complaints. Critics are too easily pleased these days, which I thought could only be said for the general movie going audience.

Without any spoilers, why is it so damn low? It ain't far off being rotten. The Phantam Menace has a 59% itself. I think the fact that fans got screwed over by Jar Jar Abrams mystery box again probably has something to do with it. Abrams never intended for those mystery box questions he created in TFA to be answered in the first place. Could you imagine how long TLJ would've been if he tried to?!? Probably well over 3 hours! I don't blame Rian Johnson for ignoring it. I blame Jar Jar Abrams for creating a bunch of it in TFA just to hook fans with intrigue. Intrigue that he full well knew had no purposeful destination, no direction to vital storyline revelations, no genuine character development, and no satisfactory closure! I told people this was going to happen!! Either Rian Johnson was going to damage the movie's pacing and story development by trying to spend too much time on tying up Abrams mystery box questions... or he was going to largely ignore them! And audiences would once again get screwed over by Jar Jar Abrams' mystery box questions that dead end to nowhere.

Her name isn't "Yoko Ono." Jesus, dude. ... pay attention: it's Token Asian Girl for the Chinese Market. Not to be confused with Token Black Dude, Token Evil Jew, Token Mary Sue, Token Laura Dern, Token Army of Evil White Guys, or Token New R2D2 Because Everyone Already Has An R2D2 Toy. Or, you know, Poe.

Surprised its that low, i could see how it would disapoint some, but not a trainwreck Uh, they needlessly killed the most beloved Star Wars character of all time after doing him a complete disservice by retconning his trilogy-defining character arc, making him a whiny douche, and generally using him in the least effective way to both serve the story and even to put over MaRey Sue, whose character truly suffers from bad writing in this from a big picture story perspective and in terms of this film alone. I've no personal stake any of their shitty, flat, uninspired, hollow new McCharacters, and all three OT mainstays are now either dead or "dead." Sooo, yeah. I cannot believe I'm saying it, but I think my time as a fan actively supporting future SW films financially is prolly at an end. It seems like a logical time to step back from it, before any further damage is done. And I've seen this sentiment echoed too many times to count in the last day or two. That's a trainwreck.

In other words, Disney warrior princess fans are the only ones really liking this movie. You know, the kind that have seen every Disney animated movie with a lead female protagonist. And also don't know about the mythos or don't really care. Now that real SW fans are seeing that all of Jar Jar Abrams lore mystery he built around the new characters dead-ends, it's killing their emotional investment in the saga.

I never expected such a divisie response with people either loving it or absolutely hating it. This is perhaps the most divisie response I've ever seen for a movie, even more than for TFA.
