Eh, the EU had its problems. It wasn't perfect, but it definitely had better characters and was even more progressive than what people are claiming Disney is doing. It had years and tons of books to establish all that. So far all Disney has had is two movies. Let's be fair here.

Eh, the EU had its problems. Yes the EU had its problems. Nobody really denies that. And neither is anybody upholding the problems as something to emulate or not fix/improve, if that is your concern.

I'm just saying that for all this fawning over the EU, it had its' fair share of problems. Just that it featured the OT Cast more than the ST does (of course, it was easier for the EU to do this) and it has nostalgia on its side.

So far all Disney has had is two movies. Let's be fair here. *three movies, an entire four (five?) season cartoon series, something in the neighborhood of 2-3 dozen canon -- "canon" -- books, a bunch of ancillary "visual dictionaries" and things designed to retcon the EU and to some extent the prequels out of existence, and however many video games, including Battlefront II with a story mode tie-in directly to TLJ. ... in three years, which is as many films as the original trilogy had in six. With, like, pretty much literally none of that other shit until later on. (Marvel Comics would be the exception, if you wanna call it EU/Legends.) So yeah, there obviously exists more material produced from 1977-2012 but it's not for lack of trying on Disney's part.

Not many of which (if any of them) tying into the ST itself aside from two movies. Rogue One has little to do with the ST.

As for "special lineage"...that only really applies to the Skywalkers. I mean, Obi-Wan and Yoda and Palpatine were all great Force-Users with no special lineage. Agreed and no one ever worries about their lineage. The reason for that is the movies made no special effort to make it look like their lineage mattered. They did that with Rey....thus the reason fans have spent 2 years wondering about it. Johnson thought he would get cute and toss that all away with a "Ha ha! We got you!"

Anyway, that's not correct, man. Virtually all of the books, most video games, and even the Rebels series all "ties into" the ST. It varies by degree, but they're (intentionally AND ostensibly) tying into the ST.

The ST still doesn't have the nostalgia value the EU has.
