John Simpson Chisum (August 15, 1824 – December 23, 1884)John Wayne in Chisum (1970)Although both John Wayne , James Coburn, and others, have played Chisum, I'm struck by his resemblence to Gregory Peck. who never did.

Samuel Clemens, AKA Mark Twain: Fredric March in The Adventures Of Mark Twain (1944): Just watched it again a couple nights ago; among March's very best work.

yet another Mark Twain : this one on stage I remember seeing a videotaped performance of it on one of the networks in the late '60s. Wonderful. Although Holbrook remains professionally active, he retired the Twain show only last year. He'll turn 93 next month. Hooray for Hal-ywood!

At first, that was my recollection, too, but some checking revealed it initially aired on CBS.

Hal Holbrook as "Deep Throat" in "All the President's Men"Mark Fell (the real "Deep Throat") In a film with so many powerhouse players, I honestly don't know if Hal Holbrook was at a disadvantage playing all his scenes in shadow with little but his eyes visible, or if those very circumstances aided him in leaving such a strong impression. At any rate, it made for a wonderful visual representation of the shadowy nature of "Deep Throat" himself. Incidentally, it's Mark Felt, rather than Fell.

Doghouse6 - Agreed. And of the shadowy nature of politics in general. ["Felt" corrected. Apologies. ]
