Not MGM, but this logo seems inspired by a certain other studio:

Real ones through the years This must be one of the longest running logos around....although Coca-Cola's logo is even older (I've spotted advertisements with Coca-Cola's logo in 1910s silent films)

Just for fun, here's a cute variation of the Columbia logo in which the Columbia Torch Lady dances. Yet another reason to love the 1970s:

This is said to be them filming the roaring MGM lion. Looks pretty quiet at the moment.

Another funny MGM variation, a rarity. The uploader, LogicSmash, has an amazing collection of logos on his YouTube channel.

I seem to remember other parodies of the old logos ... Will looks for more Columbias to share, if that's ok. Another fun thread, Matthew the Swordsman.

For those who really love parodies of the MGM logo, here's a big compilation of MTM logo variations, some really amusing:

MGM had an audio parody on The Glass Bottom Boat (1966) where the last roar is replaced by the sound of a foghorn.
Columbia, in addition to the dancing torch land on Thank God It's Friday had four others.... Strait-Jacket (1964) The Torch Lady is shown decapitated Cat Ballou (1965) Torch Lady turns into a cartoon of Jane Fonda who doffs the robes to reveal a western gunslinger outfit underneath. The Mouse That Roared (1959) Lady screams and bolts from the podium when she finds a mouse under her robe. The Trouble with Angels (1966) Cartoon version of Hayley Mills blows the torch out.
