I'm giving it an 8/10 because while it doesn't always work it does work well enough most of the time and I end up enjoying this one every year. One problem I had is I never really bought the chemistry between Murray and Karen Allen, which is kinda important but obviously not vital for me. That aside, there were so many funny moments throughout that I ended up with a smile on my face by the end, thanks in no small part to Bill Murray, who is an inspired choice to play the Americanized and updated version of Scrooge.

9/10, it's my second favorite Christmas movie and my Christmas Eve tradition. My favorite and Christmas night tradition is Die Hard of course.

Was it supposed to be a negative, mean spirited parody of the real story ?
Awful mess of a movie. Not funny, just mean. The maudlin kid story... ugh. Incredibly stupid waste of time, resources and talented people.
I am not usually a hater of movies but I hated this one. Rated it one only because there was no negative.

This movie was met with so much hate when it came, but since then has become a movie that at least one TV channel shows nowdays around Chritmastime.
It's passable entertainment on the better side of dreadfull Hallmark tv movies around this season.
plus legendary Robert Mitchum was in it!!!!

a movie that at least one TV channel shows nowdays around Christmastime. plus legendary Robert Mitchum was in it!!!! For what it's worth .... TV channel's choices for "holiday" films are sometimes at best "iffy". One of them played GODSPELL yesterday. Nothing says Christmas quite like a rock treatment of the crucifiction. I think they figure --- religion-- and grab a movie -- any movie, with a religious theme!
as for Mitchum being in Scrooged, I was embarrassed for him (and all the others in it, for that matter. (as I have ranted earlier in this thread,

This is going to sound weird coming from a young man, but I wish A CHRISTMAS CAROL 1938 had been longer, because the plot was too rushed. Script writer Hugo Butler added a new unnecessary subplot that wastes time. Luckily, Reginald Owen's performance is very good. 7/10 As the title character in SCROOGE, Albert Finney's performance is too over-the-top. The pacing is very bad and, except for THANK YOU VERY MUCH (which is a guilty pleasure at best), none of the songs are memorable. I mean, come on! The lyrics are so basic! 4/10 SCROOGED 3/10 A CHRISTMAS CAROL 2004 5/10 GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST 3/10 A CHRISTMAS CAROL 2009 5/10 IT'S CHRISTMAS, CAROL! is the worst of the adaptations. Not just because it's boring, but because I actually agreed with CAROL (who represents SCROOGE) on some things. At times she's a cold-hearted bitch, but at other times she's just a business woman who thinks about profits before dreams. I thought that Emmanuelle Vaugier would be a star by now. Putting it in perspective, I realized that I thought of that because I've seen her in many shows and movies; not because of her talent. I'm not saying she doesn't have any; just that it wasn't my focus. I don't remember her past roles enough to judge them but, here, her performance is bad. She tries to be a grumpy woman, but she comes off as someone who pretends to be mean out of boredom. When her mom tells her about how she dreamed about the future, CAROL completes her sentence, revealing that she had seen it. However, her mom didn't notice it. Maybe she is a bad mother after all. When CAROL tries to remember the title of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, EVE starts to name Christmas movies. At one point, she mentions STAR WARS, which is an in-joke (EVE is played by Carrie Fisher). Ummm... It would've made more sense if she had said THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL. Oh, I forgot. Nobody wants to acknowledge its existence. 1/10 ------------------------------------- You can read comments of other movies in my blog.
