I'd prefer someone a bit older but she's not bad. TEXT: In an interview with MTV News promoting her upcoming film, Pitch Perfect 3, Hailee Steinfeld was asked if she’d be open to taking a superhero role. She said, “Yes, absolutely, definitely on my bucket list.” When further asked which superhero she’d like to portray, Steinfeld played coy, though she did confirm she “would love” to play Batgirl when asked about that role in particular. screenrant.com/batgirl-hailee-steinfeld-dc-role/

Well, Barbara Gordon was 18 as Batgirl. I haven't seen Steinfeld in anything since True Grit, but she was great in it. I'd be down.

Gail Simone confirmed on her Twitter account the movie was being based on her New 52 Series which features an older Barbara Gordon taking on the role of Batgirl again after spending years in a wheelchair as Oracle due to the events of 'The Killing Joke.' I personally think she is too young for the role and ageism is the biggest problem in Hollywood at the moment next to people like Weinstein. Hailee could work in flashbacks though.

The Bat characters have all been aged up a bit, Batman and Gordon...well except for Alfred who is YOUNGER than usual here. If Gordon is in his 60s like Simmons is, then Barbara should be around her 30s as well. Or late 20s at least.

I don't read the New 52. Nevertheless, that sounds like a movie Christopher Nolan already made in 2012. Ageism notwithstanding, I'd rather they just did teenage Batgirl. I hope they'd keep Robin a youth as well. They always gotta be in their 20s/30s in these movies. They want an older Batgirl, why not do Batwoman? We could get the first major LGBT movie superhero.

I don't want to see an old bitter brooding Batgirl. Batgirl and Robin are supposed to be the ones who remind Bruce that there is still light and hope in the world and keep him from falling over the edge.
The DCEU is slow to learn but since it has apparently gotten rid of Snyder they can stop making depressing movies and let Joss Whedon give us a fun, action packed Batgirl movie like he gave us Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the early years before that became dull and depressing).

I think I'd be fine with it if it was a period piece. Have it take place maybe a decade before BvS.

No. Apart from the fact Gail Simone’s ‘Batgirl’ series predates ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ it is completely different and FAR better written than any of the Christopher Nolan movies and any superhero movie we have had on screen thanks to Gail. Barbara is haunted by visions of being paralyzed, tortured and sexually assaulted by The Joker and ending up in a wheelchair again throughout the series but at the same time she comes back as a stronger, faster, wiser and more experienced fighter who is 2nd only to Batman in fighting skills and can take down a dozen criminals by herself at the same time. Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson have been older in the comic books for decades and Dick Grayson become Nightwing back in the mid 80s and was replaced by Jason Todd (who later returned as the Red Hood) followed by Tim Drake/Red Robin and later Batman’s son, Damian Wayne. Then we saw the addition of Stephanie Brown (The Spoiler) and Cassandra Cain (Orphan) in the 90s, Bluebird and Batwing in the New 52 and the two newest members of the Bat Family, the Signal and Gotham Girl in DC Rebirth.
Batgirl and Nightwing are older than the Spoiler, Orphan, Red Hood, Red Robin, Bluebird, Robin, Batwing, Clayface, the Signal, Gotham Girl etc so it would look ridiculous to have them played by younger actors when it was confirmed we are finally getting the Bat Family in the Batman solo movies for the very first time and with Batgirl and Nightwing out on their own and this being set in Batman’s later years it is very like the Birds of Prey and Titans already exist in the DCEU too and with Warner Bros saying they have big plans for more female superhero movies after the success of Wonder Woman I am willing to bet on it Birds of Prey (along with Supergirl) are next ‘cause it is one of DC’s biggest selling female lead series of all time. The Batman solo movies will most likely have Batman setting up a new team with the likes of the Spoiler, Red Robin, Orphan, Batwoman, Clayface, Bluebird and Batwing. Batwoman most likely already exists in the DCEU since Kate is around the same age as her cousin, Bruce and was operating for years as Batwoman alone and with her cousin and sidekick, Hawkfire/Flamebird (Bette Kane) before she become a member of the Bat Family. Geoff Johns and Jim Lee have said there will be LGBT representation in the DCEU so I have no doubt Batwoman will be in it at some point and will most likely get a solo movie after Birds of Prey and Titans along with Red Hood and the Outlaws after they bring Jason back.

No. It is not. That was in Batman’s early years. This is in Batman’s later years. Batgirl’s role is as her own superhero and the leader of the Birds of Prey and a teenage Batgirl wouldn’t work ‘cause Barbara is not supposed to be older and bitter but older, wiser and more experienced at this point and capable of leading a team. Let’s not forget Barbara’s the oldest member of the Birds of Prey and the series this is being based on by Gail Simone ties on directly to the ‘Birds of Prey New 52 series with appearances from all of the members including Strix who starts out as a villain working for the ‘Court of Owls’ before she turns face and helps Batgirl and Catwoman and goes on to join the Birds of Prey. It was confirmed a few months ago Warner Bros have big plans for more female superhero movies after Wonder Woman (as I mentioned above) and Birds of Prey’s a heavy favourite being one of DC’s biggest selling female lead series in history and Black Canary has already been rumoured to make her official debut in ‘Batgirl’ to set up Birds of Prey. Also it was said by Joss whoever gets the role has to be the real deal and be willing to get down in the dirt with him much like they are looking for with the actor for Nightwing.
'Batgirl' being based on Gail Simone's series is historic 'cause it marks the first time we have had a comic book movie based on a series by a female writer and one who is one of the greatest comic book writers of all time and has a reputation as a legend in the industry for her Batgirl, Red Sonja, Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman and Swords of Sorrow runs. Hailee has better chances of playing the Spoiler (Stephanie Brown) who is younger than Barbara now we are getting the Bat Family in the solo Batman movies.

I wouldn't be opposed to Warner Bros making a period piece since they have the perfect series to make one of. Heh, period piece... What I was meaning is to have her be Batgirl a decade ago. Not decades ago. lol Just have the current Batgirl before Bruce went all psycho.

All I'm saying is, if you want to have a successful first Batgirl movie and it is called "Batgirl" not Birds of Prey or Oracle or something, then it has to be a Batgirl that the general audience will recognize. It has to be similar to the character in the '66 show and in the many many animated TV series' (note I didn't say straight to DVD animated movies). The first Batgirl movie won't be successful if it is based on something that is only familiar to the relatively tiny group of people that read comic books on a regular basis. Once you have established the character in the movies, you can take it in other directions but not before.

Not gonna happen.
Pitch Perfect 3 was pile of cow dung and the nail in the coffin of an overrated franchise. The critics have spoken and Hailee Seinfeld's acting was an intolerable part of the film with those suggesting she should stick to her music career. Does this movie want another Alicia Silverstone?

Once you have established the character in the movies, you can take it in other directions but not before. Well, I respect your opinion taylorfirst1 but I guess we will just have to agree to disagree and here's why. When Tim Burton made the 'Batman' movie in 1989 he did not go with the version most of the general audience knew at the time. The most well known version of Batman back then was the Adam West version and I remember a lot of people were expecting the "bangs" and "pows" and comedic lines with Robin but instead he went with something more modern and up to date with the comic books which disappointed some fans of the Adam West series and the sequel was heavily criticised for being too dark which lead to Warner Bros telling Joel Schumacher to lighten it up but 'Batman (1989)' was a hit despite being very different from the version most non comic books readers were familiar with and that is exactly what this movie would be doing going with the current Batgirl of the past decade and using Gail's version which is the biggest selling Batgirl series of all time. They are not going with the most well known version of Dick making Nightwing either and Nightwing is most likely going to be played by an actor in their 30s making it look even more ridiculous and another example of ageism in Hollywood having a younger Batgirl.
