With Hugh Jackman retiring Wolverine with "Logan" (at least until the inevitable prequel, sequel, reboot, remake, whatever), what are some other popular characters that should be put out to pasture?
Examples:
Indiana Jones The Terminator John McClaine

Agreed on all of the above, here are some more... -Ripley from "Alien." I love the universe and am looking forward to the new one, but I think this particular character has suffered enough. -Freddy Krueger (Pinhead and Chucky for the same reason...only one guy does it well) I think Batman could use a little time off too. Pleasantly, if only slightly, surprised by Ben Affleck. But like Ripley, the fact that the character is heavily anchored in suffering makes you want to see them catch a break every so often.

Sigourney has said that the supposed next Alien film from the director of "District 9" will give a proper send-off to Ripley or something like that. To be honest, I don't see who you can do any better than to do what Ripley did in Alien 3. I mean self-sacrifice to save humanity from the Alien can't exactly be topped.

Every character spike lee has played. The best way to retire them would be bashing that midget bigots head in with baseball bats in case he ever wanted to revive one of his hate filled caricatures.

While a lot of people don't, I love "Alien 3." Particularly, the music and photography is sublime, especially at the end. Ridiculously atmospheric most of the time. I was sucked in from the first second. Not everyone's cup of tea, I suppose. While extremely interested in "Resurrection" when it came out, I hated that they brought the Ripley character back (despite thinking Sigourney Weaver was fun to watch in the movie). That poor woman has been dealing with the aliens for nearly 300 years at this point. I want a deleted scene with her having mimosas with the "Sex and the City" ladies. And I hate that show.

I don't consider the Ripley in Resurrection to be the true Ripley though. She's a clone and also she's like an alien/human hybrid in sense. She also doesn't have the same personality.

I was wondering how they'd bring her back upon catching wind she'd be reprising her role in "Resurrection." Wasn't impressed. I'd have rather seen her as a new synthetic or whatever more creative people than I can come up with. Sigourney kicking alien ass is awesome and the promise of seeing some more of that gave some weight to the franchise (Arnold/Terminator sort of thing), so I was happy to see her again. Did not care for the new Ripley character though. Felt like a complete departure from how we'd come to know her from the first 3 movies. The only things I really liked were Dan Hedaya's shoulder hair, Ron Perlman, and the scene with the failed cloning experiments. Brad Dourif was good too. So was the musical score.

The Terminator has been done to death just in the last 10 years. Let it go already.
Jurassic Park. The dinosaurs are going to play out the same formula forever (which ends with the T-Rex winning). They've had their time on their island, now let them be.
James Bond. Yeah, I said it.

One reason being that I doubt little new is being done with the whole thing about a park with dinosaurs in it. How many times can you do the whole "dinos chasing humans" thing before it becomes tiresome and formulaic?

If we could pretend like TFA never happened, that will be great Well, I banned it from my personal head canon, but I would not pretend it did not happen, simply because it is too much fun making fun of it's fanfic level writing and unimaginative rehash.

Examples:
Indiana Jones The Terminator John McClaine
Characters that should RETIRE and FORCE Hollywood to come up with more creative new roles (e.g. John Wick) 1. James Bond. (As much as I love the character, we need an updated and newer story. Pave the way for new characters/stories) 2. Batman (I love Batman, but it's time to let other characters shine.) 3. Indiana Jones (I don't want to see a remake with a new actor. He is Harrison Ford. Lets create new and innovative characters for film and stop rehashing old popular ones) 4. STAR WARS (I'm sorry, but let that franchise die after episode IX). 5. Jason Bourne 6. Mission Impossible Franchise. 7. The Terminator (Franchise is outdated and not significant to today, it worked in a time when technology was on the rise, but most people were in fear of it's capabilities. Now, we live in a tech world, people embrace it, they don't fear it. So the basic principles in which the franchise was based upon don't work today.) 8. John McClaine. 9. Rocky. (I say either let "Creed" be the finale to the entire franchise, or have Rocky lead him to the title and die in the next/last one). 10. Rambo. Let it go. The Fourth one was good for closure, he finally goes home. 11. Godzilla 12. King Kong (Godzilla and Kong were invented in a time when there were still uncharted islands and places to discover. So the 'wonder' of 'what could be out there?" was fun. Space is the final frontier, not Kong and Godzilla on a strange Island or under the sea). My point is, we need new characters, we need new franchises. 1999 had "the matrix" and this generation had John Wick, you have "The Hunger Games" and wot not. However, then you also have REMAKES, REBOOTS, RETELLINGs, etc...
