1, but the hotel scenes are really entertaining in the second.

2. The traps this time were awesome. More quotable dialogue between Harry and Marv. Tim Curry's side villain is a plus though you can just toss a random portrait of him as a prop and I'd probably be satisfied.

I have to say the New York one was extremely more funny! The "Do The Cool Whip" shower scene and the hotel scenes still have me laughing to this day!!

2. It was like a cartoon. Agreed, it was more like Tom and Jerry to be exact.

well, i love new york city. I live there as most of you know. however, living here i also know the reality of the city.
before i continue i voted for the original.
and here's why. the act of throwing paint cans and bricks at bad guys is far fetched in a nice, upscale suburb neighborhood where the McCallister's lived. not so far fetched in any part of the city. even the richy rich parts. It is not [only] used to combat a home invasion or a personal attack. It IS a thing and the kids are too busy not being watched by adults to do the safe and right thing. some parents will even be right next to their kids bombing away! let's not give the dipshits ideas, Hollywood!

2. It was like a cartoon. Reason I much prefer the first & it's not close.

Gotta go with the original. The second one, while good, simply repeats the story in a different setting.

The first but the second is probably funnier, thanks to Tim Curry.

One. The boy's family are extremely annoying in both films, but even worse in the second one than the first.

Both are great films, but I'll give a slight edge to the first.

They're both great, the original is the true classic, they're both fun, both hilarious, but the first one's better.

The first one, because it's funny and a holiday classic. The sequel is an unimaginative rehash with the same jokes and pratfalls. It has its moments with them, but they were too over-the-top and lack a fresh approach; the first film's pranks were somewhat in the realm of possibility of a kid could do in a home invasion. Nevertheless, Tim Curry is a hoot.
