christmas is:
christmas is: wanting every child in the world to know there is an earthly father just like you who has a heart bigger than all those heavenly zoos paraded around at this time of year.
for it is a father's love which opens up the world to live beyond all our fears.
sjw 12/22/17 inspired at this very moment in time by anthony, one of my one hundred.
from the 'beauty series' of poems

Perhaps the OP was comparing and contrasting the love of an allegedly 'heavenly' father with the love of a real, pragmatic, caring, nurturing, attentive and devoted earthly father?

That would be wonderful for those who experienced that.

I love this poem, especially because you are gay. this was inspired by a dear friend of mine, who has five wonderful children. how he manages is a miracle to me! ;-) I miss my Dad so much, I lost him in 2004. We shared a love of animals; our Christmas tradition was to take a special warm bran mash out to my horses on Christmas day. We both fed the birds in winter, fed any stray animal that showed up and bottle fed baby rabbits that had been orphaned by a cat or a dog. He taught me so many things, stuff not normally taught to a female child... how to change a flat tire, how to use a lathe, how to build a barn, how to fix about anything with a few paper clips and some string and duct tape. Whenever I have to fix something around the house, I think, 'how would Dad fix it?'. Thanks for reminding me of my wonderful earthly father.
