I've read conflicting reports online about this being a direct follow-up to the 1978 original, excluding all other entries in the series.
If this is so and the film ignores HALLOWEEN II (1981), do we still assume Myers and Laurie to be related?

I would like to see them leave that aspect out of this new movie and go a different route, but seeing as how Myers going after family is such a big part of the series they will probably leave it in.

Ideally I too would prefer if Laurie wasn't Myers' sister and this movie took place a year after the original with The Shape mysteriously back in Haddonfield to terrorise an entirely new set of characters. Of course, this would mean excluding Jamie Lee Curtis from the movie but I can live with that because I think it would benefit the story overall. Once the sister angle is removed, there's little reason for her to be involved anyway since Myers would have no tangible motive to continue specifically stalking her. Of course, Curtis is on board (presumably still as Laurie) and obviously looks significantly older so I'm guessing the movie must be set many years later with him still pursuing her either as his sister or not. Also, the rumoured re-casting of Nick Castle at 70 years old as The Shape, could only really be justified if the story takes place 30-40 years later.
Hopefully with Carpenter and Castle involved, they'll finally manage to choose a decent mask - something we've not seen since 1981!

no love for the Halloween V mask? I'm not a big fan of the Halloween V mask. I don't think the mask in the 2007 remake was all that bad. They at least went for some resemblance to the original's look.

I don't really like any mask past the second movie. The mask in the first two movies was great.
As for the sister angle, I've said it before and I'll say it again, don't see how they can just drop it after all these years, unless JLC is playing a different character and IF that is the case, that too is going to confuse the general movie going population and the movie will probably flop miserably. Guess we'll find out when they have the cast listed.

Oh and here's the summation on IMDB:
"Laurie Strode comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago."
So if this sticks and this is the basic plot, then I don't think they're getting rid of the sister angle.

Or maybe she was hallucinating since she was in the looney bin and Batsh*t Crazy? Or just ignore that movie?

And for that...I'm thankful. Resurrection was a piece of shit.

That being said - I thought the opening in the psych ward was fantastic - It went into the crapper after that. I think it's a shame when franchises resort to this - i.e. ignoring films in a franchise. I'd actually love for Zombie to do another one. I think the menacing figure above was terrific. I know I'm in the minority on this - it's also why I enjoyed 'Jason' in Freddy vs. Jason - just a towering brute:

I wonder if we'll see a dr. loomis type character in this movie? if this is really a straight sequel to the original film then I'm sure by now Dr. Loomis is dead but maybe a colleague or family member fills in his shoes to help Laurie stop Michael. the phone conversation between Loomis and the Haddonfield police department was originally suppose to be between Loomis and his wife. maybe Loomis Jr.? is still around

I could see it working if they approached it the way they did in the original. Myers just happened to be obsessed with her and latched onto her in the original. He could have kept his obsession alive and decided to return for her. But I don't see it happening though. I'm sure they will keep them siblings.

Perhaps in this timeline she goes on to get a degree in psychology or became an FBI agent obsessed with serial killers.

I read rumors that the reason H4 and beyond changed the masked design is because the productions would have had to pay William Shatner royalty fees. If that's the case, I hope this production pays Shatner for use of his likeness.

If I remember correctly on the old boards, you seemed so disinterested in the upcoming sequel. If so, what changed your mind?
My only worries is the rumor that they're trying for a PG13 rating.

Hi agentsparky, I'm laid up at the moment recovering from a shoulder/arm injury but getting by ok thanks. Hope things are good in your world.
I'm always quite dismissive of HALLOWEEN sequels whenever they're announced largely because I feel the concept was all used up many years ago. Truth be told, I feel the same about this one but Carpenter's involvement and the rumours that it was a direct sequel to either the first or second movie got me intrigued and my curiosity got the better of me!
