Inspired by Deb's post, I think it's time to bring in some non-mammalian critters...anybody know what this little fella is? I first saw one at a Space Station museum, so if you think it looks like an E.T., that's very understandable.

The critters in question live off minute bits of plant material, and are found in or near many ponds and other sources of fresh water. They are so hardy and adaptable that they have been found in the Antarctic, and can even survive in space! Oh, and they even belong to their own phylum.
