Wow, that must've been awesome, spiderwort. Do you still live in California?
I remember visiting Monterey on a California road trip I took back in 1985... stayed in some awesome old motel I discovered right in downtown. It was a blast. Inexpensive, too. I re-visited Monterey again in 2002...... could not find that old motel to save me. Ended up staying in some fairly modern place that lacked all the charm of that old place (and was pretty expensive, too, as I recall). The sound of barking sea lions from the nearby shore kept me awake all night, couldn't sleep a wink... in sheer frustration I got up, packed my stuff, and hit the road around 3 AM in the pre-dawn darkness, heading north. I crossed the Golden Gate Bridge just as it was starting to get light out. I had a nice drive up the Coast Highway from there, though at one point I had to pull over the side of the road and grab a good long nap, lol. Ah, California dreamin'...

And yes, I still live in California. So glad you got to visit Monterey (though Pacific Grove is more special to me). California dreamin' indeed.

I didn't always agree with Chaplin, but I can't really blame him here

We recently found and watched for the first time an Australian film Great Expectations: The Untold Story (1987) Dir. Tim Burstall. The film was surprisingly very good... of great personal interest here was the location shooting and the cast of extras... Filmed in part at historical Trial Bay Jail NSW. I was working there at the time, as a park ranger, a huge set of gallows was constructed for the hanging scene. What thrilled us the most was spotting Mrs X, an extra in the crowd scene witnessing the hangings, centrally framed, positioned behind one of the stars Serge Lazareff...

Lock Martin Max Palmer (1927)-1984) may have had a short film career; however, he was a giant. Palmer was also said to be seven foot seven inches, however measured at his death he was actually eight foot two and needed a nine-foot coffin. His acting career started in 1952 and ended in 1955, notably he was the giant alien in Invaders from Mars (1953) In preparation for Killer Ape (1953)
