CHINATOWN is my favorite movie. That picture of Faye is insane. Royal Dano is a beloved character actor. It's a shame he was left out of the final cut.

CHINATOWN is my favorite movie. That picture of Faye is insane. Royal Dano is a beloved character actor. It's a shame he was left out of the final cut. It's certainly among my five (they tend to rotate for top spot, depending on which I've seen most recently). That photo of Dunaway was clearly before the blood was added for the shot, and she seems to think the makeup man neglected something. I can imagine the conversation: DUNAWAY: "Wait a minute, what about my lip rouge?" MAKEUP: "Faye, you're going to be covered in blood. Nobody'll notice your lip rouge." DUNAWAY: "Alright, I'll do it myself. But I don't want to hear about any complaints to your union rep!" Here's the Dano scene as it exists in the script: Gittes parks at the edge of the field. About twenty yards away is a man mounted on a strange machine, holding a lid off it -- billowing lavender clouds are belching forth. Several CHILDREN are watching the man at work.
GITTES (to one of the Children): "Say, pal, what's he doing?"
CHILD: "Making some rain."
Gittes nods, walks over to the man who is elaborately busying himself with the intricacies of his machine. He's aware of Gittes watching him.
GITTES: "Well, you're just the man I'm looking for. Some associates and I are thinking of buying property out here -- of course, we're worried about the rainfall."
RAINMAKER: "No problem with me on the Job."
GITTES: "Yeah. Do you have any references?"
RAINMAKER: "City of La Habra Heights -- filled an 800,000 gallon reservoir with sixteen inches of rain in two days."
GITTES: "That's swell. But how about here? Ever worked for Robert Knox, Emma Dill, Clarence Speer, Marian Parsons, or Jasper Lamar Crabb?"
RAINMAKER: "Never heard of 'em... new owners?"
GITTES: "Yeah."
RAINMAKER (climbing back up): "Lot of turnover these days. Better tell them to get in touch with me if they want to hang onto their land."
GITTES: "Yeah, I'll do that."

Marlon and Liz during production of REFLECTIONS IN A GOLDEN EYE. I can't even imagine how bizarre their relationship must have been. Did they have an affair? It seems like they must have.

mikef6re: Bogart and the tennis rackets in the photo . Wasn't his first line somewhere or other "Anyone for Tennis ?"
Trivia is a terrible thing to lose ... or is that use ?

BATouttaheckThe "tennis anyone" line is probably apocryphal. None of his biographers have found that line - or anything like it - in any play Bogart was in. Bogart himself, however, helped perpetuate the story. Later in life he told an interviewer that the line was "It's 40-Love outside. Anyone care to watch?"

Love your new avatar, BAT. Gene is one of my favorites. I had the pleasure of seeing Andre the Giant "wrestle" live one time and even slapped him on the back after his victory. He was really sweaty.
