Understandable because one of its days landed on Christmas Eve when people don't go to the cinema.
It'll really pick up tomorrow though.

Read a little bit and you'll discover this is the worst performing Star Wars out of all 9 live action films in terms of audience retention. It's not nothing.

That's besides the point of what I was talking about. Movies always see a massive drop off on Christmas Eve and of course The Last Jedi's weekend has fell on a Christmas Eve which of course means it did less business than it otherwise ordinarily would have done. Monday is Christmas Day and will see big business compared to Sunday.

A lot of people will have time off and will go watch it. I also know people who were indifferent to it and even they want to see it again. It will have legs but if it was better received then it could do much better than what TFA did.

Good, the only thing that will get Darth Kathleen Kennedy's attention is lost money. Unfortunately Disney is so stupid, they will blame this on no Death Star and think they need a Han Solo flashback for episode 9.

The Forbes article(s) specifically address the holidays and their historical effect on box office numbers and refute your point/excuse. The movie is not doing as well as either of the previous Disney releases and worse than any other Star Wars. That's bigger than splitting hairs (wrongly, anyway) about the fact that Christmas Eve fell on a Sunday.

It's my black little duckling.

that's horrible, Star Wars films usually have good legs since fans go multiple times

It's going to easily be the second highest grossing Star Wars movie ever. When adjusted for inflation, domestically it's going to far surpass Episode 2 and 3 and Rogue One and finish in a similar ballpark to some of the others.

ETA: but that was always a given, innit?

Yeah it's going to be hard to make excuses for this one because it's not going well.
Well deserved box office performance. Maybe they should ask the critics to go see it again 10 times each since they love it so much.

Saw this comment on a Variety article (about Mark Hamill backtracking in his criticism)
"How the mighty are fallen. The Last Jedi will not be a mathematical flop, no– the opening weekend assured that, but a more important thing has happened. Disney executives and the slavering stooges of Bob Iger knew they needed to dismantle Star Wars. Their big strategy was to inject moral relativism to change the DNA of the mythos. They needed Luke’s character, optimism, and western heroism eroded, ultimately tarnished, forgotten– They wanted to mold the fanbase in a political image, from cultural myth to political asset. They failed spectacularly with nearly every fan of OT loathing the new film. The master plan of lobotomizing Lucas’ style backfired so deliciously that in a vain attempt to salvage the situation they locked in theaters to brutal contracts that are going to hurt their businesses, and the theater chains will remember this just like the fans. When it ends up 500 million to 1 Billion less in their pockets than they thought they’d have, they’ll know who to blame."
