Surprised no mention of The Saints and that it took awhile to see Midnight Oil pop up...

Gods... I remember Midnight Oil!
I had me a couple of their tapes. Tall bald singer if I remember correctly. Midnight Oil IS one of the MOST-POPULAR Australian bands here in America. ONLY AC/DC may or may not be more so...

White Noise - One of the best Oi! bands of all time. Their debut album The First Assault is thug rock at its finest.
Feedtime - A sludge rock version of Motorhead. Shovel, their sophomore LP, is a fine kick in the head. NEVER heard of either of these bands here in the US.

Wolfmother Blue King Brown NEVER heard of either band here in the US. Although, I've never lived in New Jersey or Texas. So maybe or maybe not those are the ONLY two American states that both are known in.

Silverchair = , NEVER heard of them here in the US.
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds = .
The unusual thing about Silverchair was they recorded their first album in 1995 when the members were only 15 years old. It went to #1 in Australia and #9 in the US. I remember at least two songs (Tomorrow & Pure Massacre) were frequently played on Rock radio here in Florida. Future albums did well in Australia but they kind of faded away in the US. Of course they never reached AC/DC level, but it was a pretty good run for a group of teenagers. My interest in Nick Cave was piqued when I recently watched Hell or High Water and I thought the soundtrack fit the movie perfectly. I later learned Cave performed many of those songs.

Silverchair's music really did evolve with each album. From their grunge roots to later straight up pop tunes. I thought their second album "Freakshow" was more popular than it actually was.

NEVER heard of them here in the US. Don't think they made much impact in the US, they weren't even that popular in Australia outside the critics. They did a bit better in the UK and Europe. The question wasn't who's the biggest or most popular Australian band. It wasn't even who's the "best". It was your favorite. I certainly find them more interesting than Midnight Oil, who I've always found rather dull and a little on the preachy side.

I have heard of an Australian band whose name has something to do with our Milky Way galaxy. However, they're NOT called Milky Way.
