The studios blame audiences for
A) Reboots B) Remakes C) Prequels D) Sequels
etc...
I disagree. If Hollywood STOPPED making those films, people would still go to theaters. People will buy tickets to see a film. The Joe Blow movie goer saves their money because it costs 12 bucks to go to the movies per person, so they wait for EVENT films to spend it.
If you made the tickets 8 bucks per person (still make a huge profit) you would actually make more money per film. The wealth would be spread to many different films. People would be willing to take more chances.
Also, refuse to make "Han Solo" Solo films, and Rebooting Batman for the 29th time. If these films weren't 'upcoming' they would look to what is coming.
We need more films like "The Matrix" in 1999 and "Avatar" in 2009. Or the "John Wick"'s of the world. But we cannot get those films as often as we like because studios think they need to make the guaranteed money maker franchise films. They are only guaranteed money because people wait to see them and pass on unknown films.
So
A) Make tickets 8 bucks a pop. B) Stop making those aforementioned films, and people will have to go see new content.
I guarantee if you make tickets 8 bucks, films will actually gross more money. Maybe not the TENTPOLE films that people see anyway, regardless of the price, but those mid-low budget films that people pass on because they aren't sure and they save their money. People used to take more risks on no name properties when films cost less.
