I always thought that we never see culture/lifestyles/history of many parts of India represented well in Bollywood. When i was in Sikkim our tour guide/driver told us many interesting stories of Sikkim. We should have had movies based on their history or set in their culture. Similarly, you hardly see movies set in Karnataka or Odisha. Even Uttar Pradesh is underrepresented in Bollywood. At the same time, you find a lot of movies on Bihar and Punjab background.
Which state you want to see more in Bollywood movies. You are allowed to vote for up to 5 states.
My votes go to 1. Sikkim 2. Odisha 3. Tamil Nadu 4. Himachal Pradesh 5. Bengal (Pardon me for not calling it West Bengal).

Considering the lousy job Hindi movies do of depecting any culture/society and its history I think they should leave them be and stick to their fictionalized reality.

Lol...yes the quality is very poor but I think people who watch bollywood seem to have got used to whatever is offered. Some interesting historical stories could be found from around the India.

There are tons intact. But finding one which will have an universal national appeal will be tricky. But they are too busy with stupid biopics to even bother.
I remember Taxi 9211. Thought it made Mumbai come alive on the screen. That is the only decent example I can remember.

Kahaani 2 did a good job with Chandannagar. And it might have been anyplace in the vicinity of Kolkata. How aboot a movie set in Naasik or Indore though?

Sikkim (I am surprised none of the hipsters from Excel or Dharma haven't set a film there yet) Rajasthan (been a while since Gulaal) Madhya Pradesh (hopefully a movie on the Vyaapam scam) Andaman and Nicobar Maharashtra

Btw I think Kabir Kaushik's Sehar (2005) and Vishal Bhardwaj's The Blue Umbrella (2007) did a brilliant job with UP and Himachal respectively.

I do love to see a movie set in Indore or anywhere outside of Chambal in MP. Those MP people have the purest Hindi among all and for some reason they seem to be left out of conversation not just in movies but in news too. I really don't know much about Maharashtra so can't say much about Naasik but why not?

Sikkim (I am surprised none of the hipsters from Excel or Dharma haven't set a film there yet) Rajasthan (been a while since Gulaal) Madhya Pradesh (hopefully a movie on the Vyaapam scam) Andaman and Nicobar Maharashtra Glad that you mentioned Sikkim. What a lovely place! Visited in 2008 with 4 of my friends and saw so many beautiful places including Lachung village and Yumthang valley. I remember we went to zero point and I climbed on top of a mountain and asked my friends to video record me as I stood on top and shouted Katya's dialogues from Ghatak. "Tere Baap ko Kutta banaya tha maine". And it echoed all over the valley Not to forget the alcohol is very cheap in Sikkim. It seems they drink and drink all day. So most members of this board will like Sikkim. Our tour driver told us many interesting stories and I do like to see movies on those stories of Sikkim. Rajasthan reminds me of Kshatriya movie.

It's an amazing place indeed. Great weather, clean roads, friendly people and probably more hotties per sq km than anywhere in India.

well, kerala. the dynamics between the cynical beef eating mallus with their morally repugnant humor and the straightforward grass eating northies. Kerala was shown briefly in the Sirf Tum but they should probably make movies based completely on kerala. Perhaps something on their tourism industry or on their high migration rate to middle east.
