You know its gonna happen at some point, whether its 5 years, 10 years or 15 years from now (probably not 15).
What stories would you like future Wolverine films to explore (original or adapted)? What direction would you like the recast/rebooted Wolverine to head in? And how connected (or not) should Wolverine be to the larger X-men franchise?
Here are some thoughts and ideas I have on the subject.
I think we definitely need Wolverine period films. It's kind of astounding that we've had three X-men period films so far, but not one Wolverine period film, considering that he's the perfect character to do such a film yet. Sure, there was 'Origins', but apart from the opening credits, I wouldn't exactly classify it as a 'period film' in the strictest sense (can you even tell which year, or even which decade, the film is set in?!)
A Cold War-set film would be perfect. I'd set it in the 1960's, and have Logan working for a CIA special ops group 'Team X'. In fact, they can tie it in somewhat to 'First Class' (assuming continuity is more or less still the same) by maybe referencing what happened in Cuba and how that's put the US Government and the Soviets on edge. This film will be the Omega Red story, essentially - about Logan and the team infiltrating the lab in East Berlin in an attempt to sabotage the Soviet super-soldier program, failing, and then having to fight to take him down.
A WW2 film would be great too. Not sure what specifically it should be about, but I think they should reveal that Logan was one of the soldiers who liberated the camp where Erik was held. Or alternatively, Logan comes across a teenage Erik who has escaped from the camp. Either way, I love the idea of Logan and Erik having encountered each other during WW2.
Now, I know a Wolverine/Hulk film will likely never happen, barring a deal with Marvel or the rights going back to Marvel. But I don't think Wendigo is off the table. So I'd love to see a film with Wolverine taking on Wendigo. Maybe it can even be a kind of Alpha Flight film, or at least include some of the Alpha Flight characters. I'd set it at some point during Wolverine's pre-X-men years wandering Canada. Maybe he even wears the iconic yellow suit in this one (provided by Department H, as is what happened in the comics).
Also I'd really love an 'Enemy of the State' film. Wolverine gets brainwashed and goes on a rampage and the X-men need to stop him. We've never really had a Wolverine vs. X-men film so far, so this could be it.
A film that deals with Daken would be an interesting watch as well.
And last but not the least, I'd love to see a Wolverine film set in Madripoor.
