It's a Wonderful Life (1946) vs. A Christmas Story (1983)?...

Well.... For a "Christmas" movie, A Christmas Story. But for the overall film that I would watch any day of the year, "It's a Wonderful Life".

It's a Wonderful Life is better but I don't think it's a particularly great film.

Same question posted on Classics Board gets same reply
They are BOTH terrific films.
Different moods, different themes, different treatments.
Cannot and won't compare them OR choose between them. It's like asking "Which is your favorite child ?
Besides which, "over-rated" is a meaningless internet concept totally without merit as a "film criticism" (imo) What does "I don't like it because it is over-rated" even mean ?

Isn't It's a Wonderful Life a ripoff of Dickens A Christmas Carol? I can't sit through it.

Isn't It's a Wonderful Life a ripoff of Dickens A Christmas Carol? I can't sit through it. Please illuminate me on that one! Both are set at Christmas and have supernatural elements that work to give the main character some enlightenment?

Isn't It's a Wonderful Life a ripoff of Dickens A Christmas Carol? and then there was this gem that appeared in another thread "I wonder if Capra's screenplay was based on the Shakespearean play "Timon of Athens".
This rarely produced work has a very similar theme: a kind man is generous to his friends, but when he suffers financial reversals, they turn their backs on him.
The difference is that there was no "Clarence" to help him, and Timon did commit suicide." Really ! Amazin'
