I Think there is a differece
the best actors are the ones who have the best acting abilities like doing accents, changing voices, being able to completely transform themselves into the characters and are able to show the required feelings forveach film.
they dont need all the skills butvat least stand out with their performances at least one.
While favorites well this involves more than the performances. Its mostly about who do you rnjoy watching on screen.
Here you take more in account looks, sex appeal, charisma, if you like their natural voice and many other stuff outside of their acting abilities.
One actor can be on both lists but the best actor in your opinion is definitely not a synonymous of your Favorite actor.

I never classify anything as best. No such thing in my mind. I always go by personal favourites.

I think we all do that without even realising it. The Oscars of all places do it, "Best Picture" = the most poignant, achieved work. Why not "Favourite Picture" = a big budget action movie.
Ben Stiller is one of my favourite actors, I find him fun to watch but he's not renowned for his acting ability, my best actor would probably be Jack Nance or John Hurt. These guys are on a higher tier than comedy actors, but at the end of the day they are all my favourite actors, just for different reasons.

I agree, sariz.
Just because an actor has amazing acting chops does not necessarily make him/her my favorite. On the other hand, I adore Jason Statham but have not yet seen him in an Oscar-worthy performance.

Definitely.
My favorite actors are mostly actors who more or less play themselves in many movies and that I enjoy watching even when they are just winging it but they are still good/very good actors.
I enjoy watching Keanu Reeves because of his personality and presence, not his acting ability.

I like Jason Statham very much as well but my favorite who practically plays himself every time is Pierce Brosnan.

Best actor is not synonymous with favorite actor for me. My favorite actor is Viggo Mortensen, who also makes my best actor list. Actors like Adrian Paul and Leonard Nimoy are on my favorite actors list, but not best actors list. There are also highly regarded actors who would never make my favorite actors list.

As an actor, I cannot separate them in my mind. My favorite actors are the best actor.

Yes. But sometimes the ones I consider best are also my favorites. That's fine happens with some of my favorites too like Hugh Laurie but there are others who I think are fantastic but not apply to my favorites like Leonardo DiCaprio or Eddie Raydman and the other way around. I love Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson but i wouldn't say they are some of the best

I think Philip Seymour Hoffman is the best actor, but my favorite actors are Kirk Douglas and Errol Flynn.

There can be a ginormous difference between favorite & best. Over the years millions of people around the world have loved Marilyn Monroe. Many would call her their favorite actress. But her biggest fans would be hard pressed to say she was the best.

I have honestly not given it much thought. But i guess i do separate best from favorite when it comes to actors\actresses.

It's really incoherent to suggest a separation between "best" and "favorite." I can walk you through why, but I'm not going to bother unless you're willing to play the game.

I don't usually think in terms of "bests" and "favorites," but I do recognize that some actors do have a wider range of skills than others and that sometimes what I'm enjoying is an actor's "presence" on camera, when there's just something about them that's enjoyable to watch on camera. I don't usually consider those actors to be in the "best" category.

I've given it some thought, and I'd like to "play the game." I promise to only be inquisive, not a jerk. Sure. So let's start with at least a rough proposal of what a difference between "best" and "favorite" would be in your view.
