While a competent filmmaker, Kevin is a better writer than director.

Yes, but that's not saying much.

I like Kevin Smith, but this should not be 2-1 in his favor. Lol.

I would hate to see Kevin Smith direct something like The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou about as much as I would hate seeing Anderson directing Jay and Silent Bob strike back.

Interesting frame of comparison. Both have their signature stylistic elements, but I'm with @homergreg on their respective projects not working if the directors were swapped.
I like Kevin Smith a lot, even though his movies are hit or miss for me. He's got a serious gift for writing dialogue. Also (and I understand it may be just because I'm always rooting for him), he seems to bring a lot of passion and heart to his projects. Even though "Yoga Hosers", for example, was not my cup of tea, it never felt like he phoned any of it in.
I'd say the same for Wes Anderson. He's always very much 'himself' and doesn't compromise his style.
More movies from both, please.

Kevin Smith has had his moments but come on now, Wes has way more talent and his films flat out look a lot better too (in terms of cinematography & art direction/ costume design) .
