Always like that one. I only wished Eddie would have made a few more of those hard hitting and explosive action films during the 90s. Metro seems like one of his more underrated ones, and stands firmly along with The Nutty Professor (1996) as my two favorites films of his, from that decade. Couldn't agree more. Likewise I wish he had done more straight out hard bastard action pics. I can really get behind this. I want another 48 HRS. out of him, but at this point it seems incredibly unlikely. Hell, the second 48 HRS. we actually got was pretty worthless.

I think the main issue with Another 48 HRS. was that it got butched during the making/relase. I remember reading something along that Brion James and his part, was much bigger and complex, but instead it just ended up as a very huge step down, from the first action classic. I loved seeing Nolte and Murphy back on screen, but by then, you could sense that they only did it for the money (not shocking, really) but the chemistry and sharpness/wit of the original characters, were taken back, by more of a focus on just handing out a lot of explosive and violent scenes, but it ended up in a similar way to how I feel about the later Beverly Hills Cop films, at least part 2. Not that I dislike that one either, but compared to the first film, it was quite a disappointment. Also remember hearing that Eddie wanted to stop making action films, cause of his kids, or something like that, and turning the attention towards more family oriented pictures. However, I think maybe he realized that guys like Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes and Will Smith were getting sweet deals into the action genre, and those seemed to hit off well. Where as Murphy and his poor attempt with bringing Beverly Hills Cop back for a third ride, was just not all that impressive in comparison.

Phantasm Would have loved to see how an elderly Elvis Presley (Bruce Campbell) in Bubba Ho-Tep (2002), had handled that bug scene from Phantasm:
