13 Nominations for Best Cinematography since 1994...and no wins.
Could his work on Blade Runner 2049 finally bag him the award? I think so...I hope so.

I think this will be his year. I saw The Shape Of Water recently, and that film looked stunning also. It will be a tough call, but Deakins is of course WAY overdue. yes, it may fall to either one of them in the end. but in my predictions Ill go with Deakins.

Since starting this thread I've seen Shape Of Water...damn that is a good looking film. Still hoping for a Deakins win though

Still hoping for a Deakins win though thats the problem. i really hope (and still think its going to be) for Deakins to win, but Shape of Water does have a truly amazing cinematography and would be just as deserving…. in recent years I always had one clear favorite for this category, thinking the other are somewhat further behind. But with this year they both feel equally strong to me and I could justify both/either for a win.

How he didn’t win for The Assassination of Jesse James, I’ll never know. There Will Be Blood was a beautiful film, but Jesse James was one of the greatest cinematography jobs ever. The train robbery alone was jaw dropping.
