I would say it's the only Gibson movie that I didn't really connect with. Spectacular sets and production values, in fact some of the best I've ever seen, and overall still enjoyable enough for a 6/10, but I either didn't get or just didn't really connect with the bigger story, whatever it was. It just felt like a chase movie through the jungle, with hints of grander themes not fully explored.

10/10 very entertaining. didn't like that the hero was kind of a dick in the beginning though.

10/10 very entertaining. didn't like that the hero was kind of a dick in the beginning though. Yeah I don't understand why they did that and then have the guy he bullied save him. Weak attempt at some kind of misplaced dramatic device.

9/10 Love pretty much every second of it once the chase starts, and the beginning is pretty great too. The girl lepper scene is fantastic.

I believe it's Gibson's best film and a near masterpiece (even Scorsese showered it with high praise). 9/10.

8/10 at least. Yet to see Hacksaw Ridge, but Apocalypto is probably the only Gibson directed film I liked.

Great concept: 9/10, loved that they did not speak English, so that it really felt like diving into this alien world. Only thing that bothered me was the silly humor in the village scenes (sexual stimulant etc) which seemed too much leaning towards generic romcom/TV sitcom tropes.

Near Masterpiece.
It's right up there with "There Will Be Blood" as modern masterpieces in cinema.
